He smirked and stood up, walking over to the bar. "It's probably a rumor that I've already heard." He looked back at me. "You want something to sip on?"
I nodded. "Yeah, a little tequila on the rocks."
"I got you." He turned back around and proceeded to fix me and him a drink. "What did you hear, though?"
"That you and Ginger aren't actually together, and that she got really drunk one night and was crying to someone about how she wished the relationship was real."
He walked over to me, another sexy smirk on his face. He handed me my drink just as I covered the remainder of the food up. I didn't wanna appear all greedy in front of this man, so I ate enough.
He peered down at me and said, "Believe 'em."
That wasn't what I expected him to say. "What do you mean?"
"Maybe it's some truth to that, but that ain't everybody's business, you feel me?"
He pointed to the couch. "Join me. You ain't gotta sit on that hard-ass chair all night."
I stood and fixed my dress. "Who said I'm gonna be here all night?" I teased, walking over to the couch. I was sure he was watching my ass. Then I plopped down, titties bouncing and all, which I was also sure he saw.
"I wasn't saying it like that, love." He laughed and sat next to me… real close. "But I see you hear what you wanna hear."
I sipped from my drink, a smirk on my face. "No, that's what you said, but maybe you had too much to drink."
I looked over at him, and our eyes held for a long time. "A nigga like me can hold his liquor. Actually… I can hold a lot of things."
Pussy! Girl, calm down!
The remote was lying on the arm of the chair on my side of the couch. He leaned over me, his face close as hell to mine, his eyes boring into me. I could smell his breath, that's how close he was. He was teasing me for sure.
“You wanna watch something?”
I shook my head, looking away from his intense stare. “No, it’s cool. We can just… talk.”
Noree was the kind of woman I’d want to date if I were looking to date, and even me thinking like this right now was out of character, but maybe it was the way she wasn’t all over me or holding her hand out, begging and asking for shit like everybody else around me. She seemed solid. The kind of woman to bring home to your mother.
She thought I was gone try her when she first got to my room. I could see it all in her face when she was standing in that doorway, looking pretty as hell.
She’d changed her dress and put her hair back, and them lips were glossed up, looking kissable. This dress, unlike the other that I had to discreetly admire from across the table, was more chill, but her body looked almost ten times better in it, which was hard to say.
But she stood out there and made me tell her what it was first.
Ain't nobody ever did that. They be so excited to be around me. She asked. Stood right there, all nervous, and asked me straight up if I was tryna sleep with her, and something about that shifted the whole night for me.
I respected that more than she probably knew.
Now she was sitting on my couch with her legs crossed, and I couldn't stop looking.
"You want another one?" I asked, nodding at her glass.
She looked down at it like she ain't realize she finished it. "Umm. Is that a trick question?"
"Nah, that's a real one."
"Then yes." She held the glass out, and I took it, letting my fingers slide over hers on purpose. She noticed. Her eyes shot up to mine real quick, then went right back down, and she picked at the hem of her dress.
I laughed and poured us both another. Tequila for her, brown for me. I ain't gone lie, I was already three deep and feeling good. Usually, I was counting down, waiting for the part where I can be by myself again. I wasn't counting down with her.
The shit I was feeling didn’t make any sense. Noree…she walked and talked different.
