“Oh, I love you,” I say as I start helping to pull things out of the cooler. I don’t even realize that I’ve said it until he lifts my chin. “I don’t know why…”

“I love you, too,” he says. “I will always love you, even if you choose not to turn. Even if you walk away tomorrow.”

“I’m not going anywhere,” I say softly, and he kisses me again.

“Alright. Let’s eat before I fuck you instead,” he says, patting my cheek and turning back to the cooler. I can’t help but grin at him. He’s still the same ruthless man I met in that hotel, but for me? Soren is everything for me.

We eat while Soren tells me all about the places he’s been and the things he has seen. When it gets dark, he turns the headlights on so we can continue to talk. We stay close, and his hands stay on me almost the whole time.

As we are talking, Soren suddenly stops talking. He just stares at me. “What?” I ask, but he covers my mouth before I can get the word out.

“Someone is here,” he says, leaning in to whisper in my ear. “Get in the woods and hide. Now.”

“But what about you?” I ask quietly as my pulse quickens.

“I’ll be fine, baby. I love you. Please go,” he urges, pushing me toward the woodline. I get up, and he stands with me. When I amabout to turn back and beg him to come with me, he pushes me again, not giving me a choice.

I take a few steps in and bring myself down to take cover behind a stump. I can see Soren with his back to me, and he’s talking to someone. I can’t make out what he says, but when I hear the gun fire off, I slap my hand over my mouth when his head practically explodes, and his body collapses to the ground.

I sob into my hand when the pain stabs through my head, and sink to the ground to try and hide myself more. I can hear movement above, undoubtedly taking Soren with them, so I wait. A few minutes pass, so I sit up a bit and look up at the hill.

A figure stands in the light, looking out here as though he knows I am hiding. I can’t make out who it is until he turns and I see the side profile of one of the people who took Soren from me.

How could someone claim to be his friend, but betray him so cruelly? I can tell when they start driving away, because it feels like a piece of my soul is being torn away from me, into oblivion.

Chapter Twenty

Soren

I slowly force myeyes open, blinking into the darkness. My body is weak, and the thirst for blood is insatiable. How long have I been out? I try to sit up, but chains have me tied down to what feels like a table. I pull as hard as I can, but my body doesn’t respond. I’m powerless.

“Oh, good. You’re awake,” a female voice says. I don’t recognize her. A light flips on, and I flinch away from the light when it’s blinding for a moment. When I can finally make her out, she’s just a normal woman. She looks weirdly like Talia. So much so that I start replaying conversations I’ve had about her family, but… there’s no way.

“Henry,” she calls out, smiling at me.

“Ah, the great Soren, awake at last,” Henry says as he walks into the room. I’m on a table, and there is another on the other side of the room. There are shackles hanging from the ceiling at my feet, and the same at the other table. There is a table by the door on the wall by my feet, too, but I don’t know what’s on it.

“Fascinating to see how he comes back together, although it’s much slower than normal.”

“Let’s move him up,” Henry says to the woman. She smirks and turns to me. She extends her hands and curls her fingers in before twisting her wrists. When she does, I automatically flip over, and I’m dragged off the table. It’s only now that I realize that I’m not actually bound, but I can’t move my arms.

“Fuck,” I sigh and drop my head on the table.

It’s been at least a hundred or more years since I’ve seen Julianna. I never even thought about the fact that Talia’s mother is Julie. Does this mean Talia is a witch? I guess it would make sense because I didn’t think humans mating with hybrids was a thing. If Julianna is involved, then she slowed my healing down and essentially suppressed my vampire side.

But why not take Talia? Julianna has slaughtered every mate I’ve ever had, but not her daughter. Does this mean she is safe as long as I am here?

My thoughts are interrupted when Henry slowly forces his dick into my ass. I growl and bang my head down on the table. He’s intentionally not causing me pain so that Talia isn’t in physicalpain. It’s not intentional on my part, so she will just feel the sensations he is forcing on me.

“I will fucking kill you,” I grunt when he slams into my ass again.

“Less talking, more coming, pretty boy,” Henry grunts, fucking me harder. Julianna steps beside me and starts stroking my dick, and laughs.

“Pathetic. He’s already hard,” she laughs.

“Suck him,” Henry grunts, pushing deeper. My body is tense, and I can’t make it stop. When Julianna drops down and practically swallows me, tears burn my eyes. All I can think about is Talia. My poor mate. Why can’t they just spare her this and break the bond? Anything but torturing her. I’ll endure it to spare her, but Talia doesn’t deserve this. She never did.

I am nearly lifeless by the time Henry and Julianna stop. I don’t know how many times they force me to come, but it’s made a horrible mess. I am moved to the shackles, so I am standing with my arms pulled straight up above my head.
