“And, you had to give her the address too?”
“This is my new home, but according to her, it’s just where Logan tutors me. She doesn’t have anyone else,” I shot back. “I’m all she has, and if there’s an emergency, I always tell her to find me first,” I explained, feeling my chest rapidly rise and fall before a look of realization takes over my face. “If she found me that means…”
“Kaden, what’s going on?” Chase asked, entering the kitchen behind me and my head snapped up to him.
“I have to go,” I breathlessly said, making my way out of the kitchen.I need to find Solace.
I rushed out of the house, grabbing my phone in the process. I called her but she didn’t answer. I immediately got into my car, driving down the driveway in a hurry.Fuck, Lacey, I’m sorry.
As soon as I exited through the gates, I took my first left but immediately stopped, seeing her sitting on the sidewalk. Her head was on her knees and I could see her visibly trembling. No…
I immediately turned the ignition off and rushed out of the car, running to wrap my arms around her.
“Solace, what happened?” I asked, and her head snapped up with puffy eyes.
“I didn’t do it, D,” she whispered, shaking her head. “I swear, you— you have to believe me,” she stammered.
“I know, I know,” I pulled her into my arms. “I am so sorry,” I apologized, holding her close.
She steadily pulled back, looking at me with reluctance. “Yeah?”
“Yes, Lacey, I’m so, so sorry,” I said as I held onto her. “I should’ve never doubted you.”
“Oh my God,” she breathlessly smiled, pulling me into her arms. “I’d never betray you, Dakota, I swear.”
“I know,” I breathed. “How’d you get here?”
“Asher dropped me off two blocks away, then I walked over,” she explained. “He thinks he dropped me at a friend’s. I didn’t want him to have this address, and risk accidentally exposing you.”Oh my God… in the midst of all this, she’s still thinking about me.
Tears swelled in my eyes as I clutched her to me, burying my face in her shoulder. Guilt consumed me, knowing that I doubted her. My best friend. The person who had been at my side through it all. I’d never forgive myself.
“We’re good?” she broke the hug, holding my face in her hands.
My bottom lip trembled. “Can you forgive me, Lacey?”
Her warm smile melted my heart. “Of course, baby,” she cooed and we broke out in a sad chuckle.
She wrapped her arms around me, and my mind eased into her comfort. I didn’t need to force peace anymore, because it was right here. In the arms of my best friend.
“But Lacey,” I broke the hug. “Why’d you apologize if you didn’t do it?”
She sniffled. “I thought you were referring to the fact that I told Daisy aboutMr. IllegalakaMr. Muscle. But, I didn’t mention Logan,” she quickly reassured me.Oh, Solace…
THIRTY-FOUR
DAKOTA
The stories around campus hadn’t entirely died down yet. Most students simply didn’t care enough, but the ones that did, made sure that I knew how much of a slut they thought I was.
According to both Celeste, Daisy and Solace, if rumors were true then everyone was just jealous that they couldn’t have sex with Logan first or even at all. Regardless, it had become exhausting.
It was weird being in this classroom, knowing Logan wasn’t going to enter soon.
“Think she’ll sleep with this one too?” a tall blonde murmured to her redhead friend beside her.
“If he’s rich, maybe,” the redhead smirked and both girls stopped in front of me.
I hadn’t even sat down yet, and I was already being forced to deal with them.
