“That was for the smell of your coffee,” I tell him quickly, “not…you.”

I feel my cheeks getting hot from the embarrassment.

“You planned on being here for how long, and you didn’t get coffee?”

I shake my head. “I didn’t really think ahead, sadly.”

He holds his coffee out in my direction. “Take it.”

“What? No. I’m not takingyourcoffee.”

“I just got it,” he tells me. “I haven’t even taken a sip, so you don’t have to worry about the cooties.”

I roll my eyes and smile. “Really, I can’t take it. I’ll just have to take a break eventually and try to get one if the cafe is still open.”

He puts the cup down in front of me, backing away. “Youcantake it…and you will. I’m gonna go grab a back table and pretend to study for a little. If I come back and that coffee isn’t gone, I’m going to—”

“Going to what?” I ask, cutting him off with a smirk.

He shakes his head, still walking backwards. “I don’t think you wanna find out, so…” He tips his head to the coffee, “caffeinate yourself.”

I give up and just salute him, smiling. “Thank you.”

“I’ll be over here if you need me.”

“What would I needyoufor?” I ask, teasingly.

He stops walking for a second. “You’re right. I’m the one who probably needs you.”

The way he says it makes me pause.

I see him watching me before he clarifies. “You know, cause you’re much smarter than me and all.”

My phone buzzes, making me look down as I see Mason in my peripheral, turning around to walk away with the guys.

I open up my phone to see a text.

Tyler: It’s been a busy day, but I was thinking about you. Miss you babe. Let’s try for that call tomorrow? Can’t wait to come see you soon

I smile down at my phone, realizing how much I’ve missed his attention lately, and text back.

Mason

The Sig house is quiet this morning. I can see Chase is already up for the day when I roll over and look at his empty bed on the other side of the room.

I’m trying to figure out what alarm is going off that woke me up when I realize that it’s my phone ringing.

I pull it off the nightstand and see that my stepmom is calling, which means the boys are calling.

I sit up and throw my legs off the side of the bed, grab my shirt that I tossed on the floor last night, and pull it on as I answer the call.

Rose fills the screen when the video call connects. It looks like she’s in the kitchen, making breakfast, and I see two little blonde heads at the bottom of the counter next to her.

“Morning, Mason,” she chirps, but I can hear the tiredness under her words.

“Hey, Rose.”
