“Oh no, a big, muscular man who wants to beat up bad guys and protect me.Whatever will I do?”She cocked her head and batted her eyes, completely mocking me.

I leaned forward and pinched her chin between my fingers as my eyes locked onto hers.

“Keep running that mouth, and I’ll give you something to do with it,” I said, my voice low even though I knew Keith heard me.“If you want to play damsel in distress, we can do that at home. But make no mistake that I will be there to protect you, whether you want me to or not.”

I slowly leaned back, watching her features change as a flush of color painted her cheeks.

“Yeah, I’m gonna get going so you two can do whatever the fuck that was,” Keith said as he stood up.“I’m heading back in an hour with Ashley. There’s a car ready for you in the lot. When you check out, let them know that you’re collecting an envelope for Fred Casaus. The keys will be inside. If you have any issues, call me.”

“Will do.Thanks.”I got up and followed him to the door, knowing that Jo and I would be on the road as soon as everything was packed up.

Heading back to Nowhere should have felt like a relief, knowing we were going home.Instead, my stomach tightened at the thought that something terrible was about to happen.

Jo

Dom seemed off whenwe left, mainly because he hadn’t spoken much once we got the keys to the decked-out truck Keith had left for us.Not only was it lifted with all-terrain tires, but it also had dark, tinted windows, and if I had to guess—several weapons stored inside. He helped me inside and then stayed silent as he drove, the radio the only sound in the cab.

My pulse hammered in my neck as I considered all of the possibilities of returning to Nowhere. While Keith’s team hadn’t spotted Tray or any of his men in town, that didn’t mean they weren’t there.Tray was as slick and conniving as he was abusive, which meant he was able to move around without people noticing him.

I knew that my house had already been targeted, so it was obvious they had figured out where I lived. On top of that, Lauren’s body had been dropped off at the clinic, so they knew where I worked.I wanted to believe that whoever had stopped into the bar and asked Axel about me was random, but the more I thought about everything, the more it seemed less likely that it was random and more likely that someone in town had been talking too much.

I hadn’t been lying when I said that I was done hiding.

Things were changing faster than I could process, but for once in my life, it was all for the better.Between Dom and Kaitlyn, I now had two people that I would do anything for—even if it meant I had to fight for my life to be with them.I knew that Tray would never stop until he found me, which meant that it would come down to my life or his, and I had no problem taking his.

“Where do you want me to go when we get to town?”Dom asked, clearing his throat as he broke the silence.

I glanced over at him, noting the white in his knuckles as he gripped the steering wheel. The roads were clear, and the sun was shining, so it wasn’t that he was stressed about driving in bad weather. No, his body was rigid because he was stressed about taking me back to Nowhere.

“My house,” I replied, looking out the window to avoid looking at him.

“Jo...”

I put my hand up and stopped him.
