We park a few cars down from the building as I look at the time. “She should be walking down that street any second.” I point ahead of us, knowing her routine by heart.
And on cue, Aubrey turns the corner, heading for the entrance of the building. But she’s not alone. “Is that…?”
“Coach?” Noah leans in, squinting to make sure we’re all seeing the same thing.
No one moves in the car, and the lights are off, so we aren’t drawing any attention. Shane walks her to the door, seems to wish her goodnight, then turns and begins to walk away as she goes to unlock the entrance door.
“Did you know he walked her home at night?” Gabe asks in a hushed voice, like we might be heard if he talks any louder.
I shake my head. “No, she’s never mentioned it before.”
Suddenly, Shane stops walking. He says something, and Aubrey turns quickly to face him. He says something again, then marches up to her with quick steps, grabs her face, and kisses her.
“Oh my God!” I shout, then quickly cover my mouth, unable to tear my eyes away from them.
“Well,” Noah starts. “Seems hell’s about to be unleashed.”
