“Jesus, fuck!” Adam said. Cuts still stung. No matter how deep. Though, this one was deep. And a fucking good shot, too, Adam needed to regain the upper hand.
Adam socked Yani in the belly and swung under his arm until he stood behind the overturned Second. Pushing his hand at the hitter’s neck, Adam slammed him face first into the metal counter.
“Stop fucking wiggling,” Adam said, holding Yani down but pushing harder so the force of his forearm held him still. The cleaver was still pronged in the wall above him. Oh, it’d be brutal, but thus was every aspect of this life. Reaching for it, Adam ripped the cleaver from the plaster and rocked in a smooth chop across Yani’s fingertips.
“Fuck!!!” Yani said, crying out in pain that rebounded like an acoustic symphony.
Adam smashed Yani’s face down on the counter again. He needed him to shut the fuck up before someone came to investigate. Couldn’t he die quietly, for fuck’s sake? Rude.
Adam doubled over when Yani punched him in the gut and kicked the cleaver out of his hands. He barely had time to breathe before Yani had wrapped his hand up in a towel and raised his fists again.
Damn, that was some stamina. Dude was obviously running on adrenaline. Adam would admire his tenacity if it weren’t so inconvenient at that moment.
They rattled and banged throughout the kitchen, struggling for dominance. A punch from one, a dodge from the other, and so on as they smashed about the kitchen. Yani spit blood when Adam punched him square in the teeth. Adam hissed when Yani squeezed his cut forearm.
With his good arm, Yani rushed forward and wrapped his hand around Adam’s neck, pulling him up off the ground before slamming into the counter. God, he had a good grip.
Adam struggled as he was held down, his throat closing so tightly that he saw stars.
Face to face with Yani, he could see the hatred behind his eyes. So vile and strong. The pressure on his neck was blinding, coating his vision so all he could see were lights. The sting of death that drew near was familiar, and against it, Adam found his heart beating faster, harder, compelling him to push it away.
Reaching behind him, Adam grasped a cooking tray and swung it across Yani’s head. The mad man fell away, giving Adam time to heave in air and cough away the closeness of death.
A slice at Adam’s cheek made him stumble back.
Where did that fucker get another knife?
Adam gripped Yani’s good hand and tossed the knife away.
They each raised their shaking fists. Both of them bleeding too much to go on much longer. With swift movements they punched, blocked, and took hits as they moved around the kitchen. With fists flying left and right, blood flying just as fast, they fought until they both were left breathless.
Yani fought pretty well for someone who was down four fingers.
Clutching Adam at the shirt and smearing it with blood, Yani pulled him close. But just close enough for Adam to spot a blade hidden on one of the lower shelves. A fight-ending type of blade.
Their movements came to a sudden stop when Adam swung at his enemy behind him and dove for the carving knife that sat under the counter. As Yani advanced forward, Adam plunged the knife, spearing it into the hitter’s gut and sliding so smoothly it was as if the guy was made of melted butter.
Yani puffed, a shocked and deadened look appearing as blood poured from his mouth. Adam held him still at the shoulder so they would lock eyes when he wrenched the knife in farther.
Yani gazed lazily down at his stomach, blood coating his teeth red. “Ouch.”
Adam smirked.
“He’s already…got…your girl,” Yani panted. “He’ll get…everything else…too.”
Adam twisted the knife.
“Hewillkill you,” Yani spat through his bloody last breaths.
“Not if I kill him first,” Adam said.
“You will…never…get–” Would he ever shut up?!
Adam finished Yani off by swiftly removing the knife, and with one final blow, plunged it into his heart. With a short gasp, Yani was gone, sliding out of Adam’s arm and thudding onto the floor.
You will never get the chance, Adam supposed were the last words he stole.
Adam wiped his own dripping blood from his face, stumbling to steady himself.
