We all head up the final flight of stairs, and I hear Lana whisper to Enzo, “Who is that guy?”

Enzo chuckles. “My brother, Luca, is best friends with a guy called Alec and that”—he nods toward Nate—“is Alec’s brother. Why? You better not be thinking of stepping out on our boy. The last time a woman hurt this family, she ended up being shipped far, far away.”

I can almost feel Lana’s eye roll. “He looks familiar, that’s all.”

I don’t know why she’s so keen to find out about this guy, but I’ll worry about that later because right now, all that stands between me and Savannah is a few walls and a few men who are about to find themselves dead.

“Enzo, Nate, Cal, you three come with me to get rid of however many guards are left over. Harley, Cole, Lana, Damon, and Logan go find Harley’s girl. Sound good to everyone?” Izzy says, and we all nod in agreement.

It's time for me to get Savannah back where she belongs.

SIXTY-NINE

SAVANNAH

I watch in horror as Morris’hands go to his belt and swallow the bile crawling up my throat as he takes a step towards me.

No no no no no. NO!

“Please,” I beg, my voice bordering on hysterical. “Please don’t do this.”

“That’s right, bitch. Fucking beg. I love the sound of your voice pleading with me.”

I try to control my breathing as he steps even closer to me, but this time, he’s looming so close I can almost taste his acrid breath.

“I always loved the way you’d just give in to whatever I was doing to you, not even bothering to fight back. Though I wouldn’t mind if you changed things up a little bit. I do love a fighter every now and then.”

‘I like fighters.’

‘You need to behave, Savannah.’

‘He sent me to give you a reminder of what will happen if you don’t comply.’

Flashes from that night in the alley assault me from all directions and I struggle to heave in a breath.

This can’t be happening.

Not again.

Not again, not again, not again.

The trauma of that night is still ingrained in my brain, and I don’t think it’s something I’ll ever forget.

And right now, Morris is recreating that night but making it so much worse.

So much worse.

But I fought back that night and survived.

I can do it again.

Ihaveto do it again.

I had resigned myself to the suffering I knew was coming, but now that I’m faced with it, faced withhim, I can’t let it happen.

I can’t let him do this.

I watch as he pulls his vile-looking dick from his pants, trying not to throw up at the sight of him, and he takes another step toward me. But that one step might be the thing that saves me, because now I can see the gun that’s in a holster on his side, and I know there’s only one way of me getting out of this without him getting what he wants—I need to play along.
