I should have stayed away from Harley. I should have kept him safe.

“I’m sorry,” I say, my voice barely above a whisper as I try to give him what he wants. There’s no use rebelling, no matter how much I want to. The only way to survive the man in front of me is to go along with it until I find the right moment to get away from him. What happens after that, I don’t know.

“You will be.” He stands slowly from the chair, his presence as harrowing as always, and I force myself not to flinch back. I hold eye contact—the only rebellion I allow myself. “I thought you would have learned your lesson over the years, but it turns out you’re harder to… train than I thought you would be. But don’t worry, I have friends who know how to… make someonesubmit.”

Oh god. Oh fuck, I think I’m going to be sick. He doesn’t mean… he doesn’t mean what Ithinkhe does, does he?

What am I thinking? Of course he does. The conversation with Logan replays, and the file Harley’s mom gave me flitters in my mind as I think about what my father isreallyinvolved in, and I know this time, it’s going to happen.

His threats are going to become a reality.

And I don’t think I’ll live through it.

“What’s going to happen?” I rasp, knowing I shouldn’t be asking questions and should just keep quiet, but the words tumbled out before I could think it through.

A slow, sly smile tilts his lips, and I swallow thickly, knowing with everything in me that whatever he’s about to say, it’s going to destroy me. “You have a few final hours to make peace with the fact your life is over, then you’ll be taken to somewhere where I can hand you over to myfriend.”

I don’t say anything. I don’t move, and I barely breathe. Ican’t. I can’t do a single fucking thing but let the panic take over, and he knows it, because he lets out a cruel, bellowing laugh before heading toward the door.

He goes to leave, but not before turning to look at me over his shoulder. “You should have been a good girl, Savannah. Now you’re going to learn what it’s like toreallybe punished.”

And then he’s gone, leaving me with my thoughts.

Well, one thought, really.

I’m not going to survive this.

SIXTY-SIX

HARLEY

After a drivethat felt like forever, we park next to a state-of-the-art private jet, and I shake my head. Sure, all our families have their own, but this is… this seems different.

I don’t waste time getting out of the car and head up the steps to the jet, the others close behind me. I nod at the stewardess waiting for us and walk through. The plane is luxurious, and my eyes snag on the engravings on the material of each of the seats. It looks like a fancy family emblem, with an R in the middle.

Who the fuck isR?

“Whose jet did you say this was?” I murmur, and Cole side eyes me before sighing.

“I text my cousin. It turns out that one of their jets was stored here for some reason, so he sorted everything out for us.”

“And he didn’t ask why?”

Cole’s lips twitch. “He’s not in the business of asking questions, though I’m sure they’ll come eventually.”

“What will you tell him?”

He full on smirks this time, and I feel like I’m missing something. “The truth.”

Yep, definitely missing something.

Lana takes a seat next to Cole, facing me, and Logan sits at the back, his laptop in front of him as he keeps track of Sav. She’s been in the same place now for nearly an hour, but we all agreed to keep an eye on her tracker in case she ends up moving by the time we get to the city.

I’m grateful as fuck to the people with me, since I don’t know what the hell I would do without them. There’s no way I’d be able to help Sav without these three. Sure, I can fight if I need to, but they have skills I’m sure I don’t know about. I think I need to start paying a little more attention to my friends, because today has been one surprise after another.

I spend the first half of the flight pacing, wishing it didn’t take an hour to get to Sav and that I could just be with her. Wishing her father wasn’t such a piece of shit. Wishing a whole lot of shit, really.

Eventually, I get sick of pacing and take a seat in front of Logan. “Any change?” I ask desperately, though I don’t know what answer I’m hoping for. If she’s still in the same place, then she’s still trapped and if she’s moved, she’s either gotten herself free, or she’s in even worse trouble than before.
