I know I’m going to give in.
“You can’t tell me we aren’t fire together. You can’t tell me that anyone has ever made you feel the way I do. We fucking belong together, Sav. I know we have a lot of shit that the both of us need to get over, and I know I’ve hurt you a lot in the past, but I think we can get past it all. I think together, we could move on from everything and have something really fucking good. Something special. I think we can work this out, I just need you to agree to try. I need you to fuckingtry, baby. Please.”
He sounds so sincere, sosure.
He wants me to try.
But what if things go to shit? What if we end up worse together than ever before? What if it doesn’t work out, and he goes back to hating me?
But what if itdoeswork out?
What if. What if. What if.
I’m so conflicted, I don’t know what to do.
I want him. I’ve always wanted him in ways I knew I could never have him.
But maybe he has a point.
Maybe weshouldtry, and really, it’s not as though things can get any worse than what we were like before.
I take a deep breath, steeling myself to make the decision I know could change everything and whisper the words I know I shouldn’t, but I can’t stop myself anyway.
“Okay.”
Harley’s eyes widen, shock flitting over his features, and he repeats, “Okay?”
I nod, more determined this time. “Okay, I’ll try. I’m not promising anything, and I can’t be sure this will work, but I think we should see if we can?—”
My words are cut off as Harley’s mouth slams down on mine, my words lost to us both.
I guess we’re doing this.
FIFTY-SIX
HARLEY
I breathein the salty air, filling my lungs and slowly expelling it as I take a step toward Savannah, where she’s standing at the end of the pier.
I didn’t even know this place was here, but if I did, I probably would have come here a lot sooner.
It’s a hell of a lot quieter than the pier we first met on, not having any of the attractions and being in a quiet, peaceful area.
“You shouldn’t be out on your own,” I say softly, and she jumps before spinning around, her eyes wide. As soon as she realizes it’s me, her shoulders relax, and she turns back, facing the sea.
“Asshole,” she mutters. “You scared the shit out of me.”
I chuckle. “How do you think I felt when you weren’t in the library or your dorm?”
Sav shakes her head. “How did you find me?”
“Logan tracked your phone.”
“Hetracked my phone?” she all but screeches, andI can’t help but laugh. Sure, maybe it was a step too far, but we were worried about her, so she’ll just have to deal with it.
Logan wanted to come along and talk some sense into her, but I managed to convince him to let me do it on my own. After all, I’m pretty sure I’m the reason she’s here to begin with.
It was a nice one-hour drive—very scenic—but would have been a hell of a lot better if I wasn’t stressed the fuck out about the girl in front of me. She has no idea how much we all care about her well-being, but she’ll figure it out eventually.
