Isaw Key on the camera the moment she pulled into my driveway. I could’ve let her know that it was my house that I’d dropped the location to, but I didn’t want to give her the option of saying no, even though her smile had said yes before she texted that she was on the way. I watched as she sat in her car with the engine running, knowing she was waiting for me to come out. I laughed to myself while pressing her contact on my phone to call her.
She answered on the second ring.
“You want me to come outside and get you?”I asked with the call on speaker, still watching her from my camera feed.
“I don’t know yet.”
Laughing, I shook my head.“I don’t know whether to call you stubborn, bullheaded, or just a smart ass.”
“Kyiris or Key has suited me all my life. Either of those names work just fine,”she replied.
“Smart ass it is.”
“I’m about to leave.”
“No, you ain’t.”
“Says who?”
“Me.”
“I got a little over half a tank of gas, boo. I can reverse this Rati and be on my way.”
“And I got a Glock in here that’ll put your Rati on all flats before you pull out the driveway,”I challenged, walking down the steps to the front door.
She fake gasped.“Is that a threat, HVAC man?”
“Who?”I chuckled, and I could hear her laughing.
“I’m sorry, my cousin called you that earlier.”
“Ohhh, you been talking to your family about me, huh?”
She sucked her teeth.“No, but apparently, they know you. My cousin, Aura, said you good peoples.”
“Aura Sullivan?”
“Mmhmm.”
