“We love helping veterans find their forever homes,” Dakota replied.
“Righto. Gotta help bring my baby girl into the world. God, I hope I don’t pass out this time.”
Dakota chuckled. “You’ve got this.”
“Thanks, bro.” Maverick hung up.
“They’re at the hospital,” Dakota told Providence. “We’re taking Ian and Whiskey tonight.”
Providence’s phone rang. “It’s Evangeline.” She put the call on speaker. “Hey.”
“Did you hear? Carly went into labor.”
“We can take Ian and Whiskey tonight.”
“Thank you,” Evangeline replied. “I got your text. This criminal is…well, he’s super dangerous.”
“And that’s why we’re chasing him,” Providence replied.
“I did some digging and can fill you in later,” Evangeline said before hanging up.
These days, Dakota counted his wealth differently. He considered himself a rich man because of his family. He adored his wife and his two beautiful children. He loved co-running Goode-Luck with Juanita, and ALPHA with Providence.
And he savored their close-knit relationships with his five friends from college, their wives, and their children. He was a lucky man, indeed, and he never took his good fortune for granted.
On the short walk home, he pulled his beloved wife to a stop, captured her face in his hands, and gave her a tender kiss. “Love eternal,” he murmured.
“Love eternal,” she replied with a smile.
