I watch him struggling to reconcile his own needs and what he wants for his daughter, and suddenly it all becomes clear.

What am I even crying for?

“You said you love me,” I say in a kind of daze, and he nods. A smile starts to tickle at the corners of my lips, and I wipe at my drying eyes, his massive hands still clutching my head like he’s afraid I might fly away somewhere. “You love me?”

“I love you, Summer. Daisy. Little Sis. Baby. All of you. I know it doesn’t make sense, but I live on instinct and my instincts have never been wrong.”

“And you don’t care about the TV deal?”

“I’ll tear up the contract in an instant if you just say the word. I’ll find a way to pay Ted back for his investment in me and this place. There’s more than one network out there. Shit, I’ve had all sorts of companies after me for endorsements for years. I always thought it was a sell out to do that, but I see it differently now. I’m not poor by any means, but I made promises. I’ll figure it all out. If I can climb my way out of a swamp in the Amazon with no compass and a broken arm, I can do this. Hailey too, she’s toughened me up in ways I didn’t know I needed to be tough. I can take on anything, even living in a city. With her. With you. None of it means anything without you. You’ve made me want a different life. A life I never imagined before you.”

“So, you don’t need to take Hailey to the city. Because I’m staying here.”

He frowns. “What?”

“If you’ll have me?” I slide my hands around the hard muscle of his waist, his hands dropping to grab me by my ass, tugging meupward, mounted on the front of him like a baby in one of those chest carriers.

“You’re not giving up your dreams, but I got you, baby. Daddy will always be here for you.”

He’ll never let me go, never let me fall.

I didn’t think I wanted a life of adventure, but with him behind me, beside me or on top of me, it will be the safest adventure of all time.

“Dolly’s gonna kill me,” he murmurs into my ear, before planting a kiss on that magical spot on my neck, my skin rippling all the way down to my toes. “She told me if I ruined you, I’d have her to deal with.”

“Better make the ruining worth it then, don’t you think?” I say with a grin, rolling my hips against him, working the bottom of my t-shirt up and over my head. “Let’s live dangerously.”

Chapter 12

Summer

Epilogue…seven years later…

My husband has made some adjustments when it comes to his version of ‘roughing it’.

Electricity, four bedrooms and six bathrooms, a library, offices for both of us, a playroom for the kids and an all-white kitchen with every gadget and gourmet appliance Price could convince the delivery drivers to bring all the way up here make our mountain ‘cabin’ something we can both live with.

He’s just outside, torso glistening in the summer sun as he swings the ax in an enormous arc, bringing it down with a ‘crack’ onto the standing piece of wood, splintering it into three pieces.

Our oldest outside of Hailey is Nick, named after Price’s brother, and he just turned five last month. He’s his father’s little shadow. My heart strains when I see how he looks at Price like he created fire.

He’s an amazing father to all three of our babies. I adopted Hailey officially the day after our wedding, having another type of ceremony to symbolize bringing our family together officially.

That was all Price’s idea. The big lug has the biggest heart.

I shiver as his stunning green eyes shift, eating me up as he looks over to see me standing in the doorway of the cabin, wearing a white lace-trimmed eyelet nightgown, cradling my steaming cup of coffee and taking in the beauty of our surroundings.

The old cabin where we spent our first night together sits about a hundred yards from this newer one. We use it still as a getaway, and love to re-create our ‘only one bed’ night as often as we can.

My husband wants to be inside of me every chance he gets, and I admit I still tease and taunt him, not that he needs any encouragement in that department.

He is always thinking of what’s best for me, even when I don’t like it.

I’ve had more than one red bottom in our time together, but after the spanking comes the orgasms. So. Many. Orgasms.

Those early days of playing our big brother, little sister roles have grown into their own naughty fantasies. But that’s just for play time.

The other title I use for my husband is Daddy. More than just a turn-on during sexy times, it’s who he is with me. Protective, nurturing, a bit bossy but always with a reason and a guiding hand showing me the way.
