“I’m going to cook breakfast. Any requests?” I ask, pulling her into my arms and kissing the top of her head.
“I couldreallydo with a coffee, I’m so sleepy,” she replies with a yawn.
“Get dressed, and I’ll have coffee and breakfast waiting downstairs.”
I give her a quick kiss, throw on some sweatpants and head downstairs. I decide pancakes are on the menu this morning. Cooking isn’t something I usually do for people, but the idea of her sitting in my kitchen while I feed her something warm does something strange to me.
I knock up some pancake mix, cautious not to get flour everywhere. I’m halfway through cooking them when Kat pads down the stairs. She’s wearing the same clothes from last night. I chide myself for not thinking ahead and buying her clothes to keep here.
“Mmm, coffee,” she says, gravitating towards the coffee machine, stopping beside me for a quick kiss.
I place a plate of blueberry pancakes in front of her as she sits down at the island.
“Thank you,” she says, her fingers toying with her necklace. “I’m not hungry, though.”
“I heard your stomach growl in your sleep,” I say, holding her gaze.
She wrings her hands, her eyes locked on the counter. “I’ll just get something later,” she mumbles. As she sips her coffee, her stomach betrays her with a growl.
I watch her carefully. “Why won’t you eat?”
She pauses, her coffee cup halfway to her lips. Her eyes close, as if fighting an invisible battle in her head. “I do… I just prefer to eat alone,” she whispers.
My jaw tightens at her words. Who the fuck made her feel like she must hide something as basic as eating? Her knee shakes restlessly, her eyes darting to the door.
I rush to the island, my hands finding her ass, and she lets out a small shriek, wrapping her legs around me for stability as I pick her up and drop her onto the counter. Her startled laugh fills the kitchen, and for a moment, the tension cracks.
“Look at me.” I tilt her chin up. “Humans need to eat to survive. Your body is perfect, and If I have to drop to my knees and worship you like a holy statue to prove it, I will.” My thumb brushes her bottom lip. “If I have to kiss every inch of you to wash away what others have said, I will.” I kiss her collarbone. “If I have to tell you for a hundred years that your body is perfect, even when we are both old and gray, I will.” My voice drops lower. “And I won’t stop doing any of these things until you know with every fiber of your being that it’s true.”
Her breathing hitches, and her eyes glass over.
“You are perfect for me, Kat,” I say, holding her chin firmly between my fingers. “Exactly the way you are.”
“I promise to try,” she whispers, eyes looking deep into mine. “I promise to try, but it might take some time.”
“I’m a patient man.” I kiss her deeply, her tongue probes my mouth as I squeeze her hips, her soft skin spilling over my hand.
Fuck, I love this.
After a few moments, I pull away.
“Let’s start with now,” I say as I nudge the plate of pancakes towards her.
She chews her lip before cutting a small piece and putting it into her mouth.
Pride swells in my chest as I watch her eat. I kiss her head before I grab my own plate of pancakes.
My phone buzzes in my pocket. Pulling it out, I smile to myself as I see it’s the text from Gareth I’ve been waiting for.
“When you’ve finished, you’re coming with me. I have something to show you.”

The Maybach roars down the highway, and I watch as slower cars shrink into the distance behind us. After I’d finished my pancakes, Elias took me down to his garage, and my jaw almost dropped. No less than six cars and three motorbikes filled the large space. I remember being impressed when I thought he just had a Porsche. Now I’m here, sitting in a fucking Maybach? When did my life become so different?
