The Fisher boys, Brooke, and I go way back. Even before my parent’s accident, they’d always felt like family.
“So, please, will you join me in raising a glass and toasting the happy couple. Here’s to Boden and Lakelyn and what’s to come as you embark on this next chapter.”
“Here, here,” everyone chanted in celebration while I dipped my gorgeous fiancée backward and gave her a kiss that was arguably not rated for public viewing.
But I didn’t care in the slightest. I was happier than fuck, and I wasn’t about to hide it.
“Easy there, brother, save it for the plane.” Brooke slapped my shoulder.
“Plane?” Lakelyn looked up at me through her lashes in confusion.
“Yes, we’ve got,” I pulled my phone from my back pocket, “just under three hours until we will be wheels up.”
“What!” she shrieked. “Are you serious right now?”
“Surprise.” I smirked, knowing how much they drove her crazy.
“Boden, why didn’t you say something earlier? I could have packed before we left the house. Wait, where are you taking me?”
“It’s all been taken care of, my love, so no need to worry about anything. Plus, it’s not like you’ll need much.” I waggled my eyebrows, desperate to get her alone.
“So, no hints on where you’re whisking me away to?”
“All in due time.” I palmed her backside. “All in due time.”
“Is that the paramedic from the night of the storage facility fire?” Lakelyn asked, and I took in her line of sight, only to see Arizona leaning forward over the bar as the bartender said something in her ear.
“Yes, it is.” It wasn’t long before she looked back over her shoulder, and while we stood some twenty feet away, there was no denying she was fuming mad as anger vibrated over her body as she clutched her handbag and shot daggers across the bar.
“I think she’s looking at Jameson.”
My head whipped in his direction to where he was perched earlier on a stool near the pool table, and sure enough, his eyes were pinned squarely on Arizona.
She threw money down on the bar before we watched her head toward the hallway in the back where the restrooms and exit were. It didn’t take long before Jameson was hot on her heels, and I couldn’t help but smirk, thinking she was the reason he’d been in a foul mood as of late.
“I’m guessing there’s a story there?” Lakelyn observed.
“It sure appears that way. One I’m not privy to, but honestly, if there was one woman in this town that could handle Jameson, I strongly suspect it’s Ari.”
“Sounds like fireworks to me.”
“I’m looking forward to creating our own.” I leaned in real close so no one would hear and whispered, “What do you say to joining the mile-high club?”
Lakelyn’s sharp inhale of air before she scraped her teeth over her bottom lip lit the fuse, snapping my remaining restraint as my pants grew impossibly tight.
“Why, Officer,” she batted her eyelashes, “are you trying to get us arrested before the real fun starts?”
“I’d never risk anyone seeing what’s mine. Cameron gifted us use of his private jet for our trip, and I don’t think we should let the opportunity go to waste.” Her eyes widened while a beautiful blush dusted across her cheekbones. “And I’d be more than happy to bring my cuffs along.”
“I’m down with that plan.” Her eyes sparkled back at me.
“Noted, beautiful.” I grinned, and with my chest puffed out with pride and her hand in mine, we made our rounds, shared in laughter, toasted to friendships, and celebrated our engagement with those who embraced Lakelyn with open arms.
Lakelyn once said no one had ever chosen her.
I didn’t just choose her; she also chose me.
And I planned on showering her with my love every day for the rest of our lives.
