I can’t say I’ll enjoy my stay here, but I’m positive I’ll have the best sleep of my entire life tonight, especially if Leonid stays away.

When I rise to my feet again, I head straight to the bathroom and take a long, warm shower. It’s only when I’m done that I realize I don’t have any clothes to change into.

Shit!

I should’ve thought of that first. I’ll have to ask Tatiana about shopping for some new clothes and my own toiletries.

Grabbing one of the freshly folded white towels in a basket by the rack close to the bathtub, I wrap myself with it and walk back into the bedroom. Since Leonid’s away, I decide to help myself to one of his shirts. I can have it washed and pressed tomorrow so he doesn’t notice when he gets back.

The walk-in closet is almost the same size as the bedroom. Shelves line every corner of it, covered with expensive suits, shirts, cufflinks, and shoes. Everything’s arranged in sections according to cut and color.

For a moment, I wonder if I just walked into a men’s designer store, or if my new husband has OCD.

Jesus.

How can anyone own this many clothes and accessories? If I chose to steal some of this stuff and sell it, I think I’d make enough money to set up the three generations after me for life.

As tempting as it is to try, I ignore my impulsive thoughts and grab a shirt from the white section. I only button it up to mid-cleavage, and although the shirt is twice my size, it barely covers my ass and hips.

I guess this will have to do for now.

Throwing my hand over my mouth, tears well in my eyes as I yawn. It’s only a couple of minutes past seven. I haven’t had dinner yet, but I’m so exhausted that I decide to take a nap before I eat. Maybe I can also borrow some of Leonid’s sweatpants when I’m ready to go downstairs.

The light in the bedroom is turned off when I return. I try to tell myself it’s the exhaustion playing with my mind, but I’m pretty sure I left it on earlier.

Someone turned it off.

“Hello?”

No one answers, but the scent of spice and cedar floods my nose. It’s sweet and tempting at the same time.

Could it be…?

I feel a familiar warmth behind my back. Strong arms snake around my waist, and then the feeling of lips grazing my earlobe makes me shiver.

“I see you’ve been helping yourself to my clothes, ptichka.” Leonid’s voice is deep and husky, dripping with sarcasm and something darker.

Goosebumps spread across my skin as my heart stops beating.

Chapter Ten

Elena

“Leonid.” I gasp his name like I’m seeking his permission to breathe. I wasn’t expecting him to come back tonight. I wonder when he came in and…

Fuck.

He knows I’m wearing his shirt.

Given how possessive he is, he doesn’t seem like the type of guy who’d be happy with others touching his stuff. My mind whirls as I try to come up with a solution for the mess I’m in.

Would it work if I ripped off the shirt and tossed it under the bed? I’m a good liar, at least to the best of my knowledge. I could gaslight him and tell him he’s crazy for thinking I’d even want to touch his clothes after he forced me into marrying him. What sort of insane woman does he think would want to wear his shirts after everything he’s done?

On second thought, that doesn’t sound like a good idea, because Iaman insane woman.

Mustering my courage, I step back and glance up at him. His eyes are pinned on me with a stare that looks nothing like the murderous glare I anticipated. It’s dark, filled with barely restrained lust, but I’m fairly certain that might be my imagination.

“I…” I mutter, thinking of an excuse, but my brain doesn’t come up with anything good. “I…wasn’t expecting you home tonight.”
