“This little prick is fucking my sister,” Carter snarls.

“Graham, upstairs to Aspen’s office! Brodie, go ice your face! And you, young lady, time to leave!” Coach instructs, pointing in the direction of the door. “Leave! Now!”

“Don’t fucking yell at her!” Aiden snaps, then turns to Cammie, thumbing the tears from her face. “Go out to the car. I’ll be right behind you, okay?”

Sniffing, she nods, and as Aiden presses a kiss to her forehead, Carter’s nostrils flare. A few minutes later, Cal and I are left alone, racking weights and wiping down the equipment.

“You don’t seem surprised,” he says, turning to me.

“Nothing really surprises me anymore.”

And it really doesn’t, not after all I’ve been through. Plus, I heard Cammie’s voice on the other end of Hannah’s call the other night, so I knew they were fucking around. It put me in a really bad spot. If I said anything, I would be betraying a friend. By keeping my mouth shut, I betrayed another one. I’m damned if I do and damned if I don’t.

“Well, the cat’s out of the bag for him. You better hope Coach doesn’t catch wind of your extracurricular activities before it’s out of the bag for you too.”

And with that, Cal leaves me in the middle of the gym, overthinking everything.

Passing by Carter’s office on the way to Coach’s, I catch him packing up his things. My knuckles rap on his doorframe as I walk in and take a seat in front of his desk.

“Everything okay, Doc?”

“Well, I’m not fired, so there’s that. Aspen suspended me, but at least she’s putting it in as paternity leave.”

“And what about Aiden?”

“What about Aiden?” he counters.

“I’ve never seen him like that over a woman. He nearly lost his shit on Coach for raising his voice at Cammie.”

Carter pauses with his laptop halfway in his bag. A curious expression crosses his face before he shakes his head.

“I can’t think about Aiden right now,” he says, shoving his laptop down further into the bag. “Or Cam for that matter.”

“Fair. But hear me out for just a second. I know what happened to Cammie in college is fucked up, but she’s not a fragile teenager anymore. You know deep down, underneath all the juvenile bullshit Aiden pulls, that he’s a good guy. Try to have an open mind.”

“And if it was your sister?”

“If he’s good enough to be your friend, then he should be good enough for your sister, don’t you think? Just some food for thought.”

“I don’t know, Mac.”

“Weren’t you the one who sat here a couple of weeks ago and told me to trust him with Hannah?”

“What about Hannah?” Coach asks, stepping into Carter’s office.

Fuck!

Turning around in my seat, I meet Coach’s eyes dead on and pray he didn’t hear all of that. “Well, I was going to go straight to the woman who fucked up my game, but now that you’re here, I guess I should talk to you about it.”

Coach moves further into the room and leans back against the wall with his hands in his pockets and asks, “What’s going on?”

Dick move, Sean. Don’t do this.

You want her back, don’t you?

She’s going to hate you.

Or love you.
