I move against him and he’s so warm and large and intense. My toes curl and my back arches when he holds my jaw in place and dips to place a kiss against my lips. I open my mouth, relishing the taste of him, the feel of him.
He’s like an addiction I can’t stop. One I never want to get rid of. Matteo’s eyes flutter shut when I slam down onto him before sliding from side to side, each movement punctuated with a harsh moan.
“Fuck, baby. I’m about to come,” he groans.
I reach down for my clit, strumming the nerve endings there in small, taunting circles. My toes curl up and I lock eyes with him as he continues to slam me down onto his cock. My orgasm sweeps through me and I clench my lips to muffle the scream that threatens to wrench out of my lips.
When I calm down, Matteo’s still going. There’s a bead of sweat on his forehead and a glint of pain in his eyes that I don’t understand. His stomach tenses against mine and he fills me with his warmth with a harsh growl.
I fall down onto his chest, our heavy breaths synchronizing. When I feel a kiss against the side of my head, my heart skips a beat.
“Ti amo,principessa,” he whispers softly.
I fall still. And then my heart rate picks up so suddenly I’m surprised my heart doesn’t beat right out of my chest. I don’t know a lot of Italian but I’m pretty sure Matteo just told me he loved me.
And even worse, I don’t say anything back. I don’t think he expects me to.
We stay like that, with him inside me. And once we arrive at his place, he helps me clean up and look presentable enough to walk through the house.
While he heads up to Leo’s room to wish him good night, I head to my bedroom for a shower. And it’s while I’m in the shower that the thought finally lands the way it’s been threatening to for weeks.
The missed period. The first night. The way my body has felt quietly, imperceptibly different and I’ve been too stubborn to examine it.
I exhale through my nose and shut my eyes. I need to take a test. I have one in my bag I picked up a few days ago, but haven’t been able to bring myself to take it.
After my shower, I head back inside the room, riffling through my bags before my hand grasps the test.
With a shaky breath, I reenter the bathroom to take the test.
Please, please, please.
The next five minutes are spent waiting with bated breath. It feels like hours pass before it’s time to check what it says. When I finally manage to peel my hand off to see the screen, my heart slides down to my stomach.
The two lines it shows me are so deep, there’s no room for second guessing or doubt. My eyes well up with tears.
I’m pregnant.
I don’t know how long I stay in the bathroom. The thoughts pile up too fast to untangle. There’s shock in there, and something that isn’t quite fear but lives next to it, and underneath both of those things, quiet, inconvenient, undeniable, something that feels a lot like want.
I’m not ready to look at that last one yet.
Eventually I have to leave and get dressed. Matteo will come knocking down my door if I don’t head over to his bedroom. He’s been trying to get me to move into his fully but I’ve been stalling because it feels too permanent.
How ironic considering there’s absolutely nothing more permanent than having his baby.
He’s lying on the bed when I walk in, in nothing but black boxers. He has one arm behind his head, the other one holding his phone as he scrolls on it. His concentration breaks as soon as I walk in, though, his eyes sliding to me with a quiet intensity.
He’s so handsome it hurts.
“Are you okay, Kitten?” he questions, studying my face.
I crawl into bed beside him and he immediately wraps his arm around me.
“Yeah, it’s just been a long day,” I assure him.
We lay down and he pulls me into his chest. I listen to his breathing for a couple of seconds, until his gruff voice fills the air in the room.
“I meant it, Lindsay,” he says gently. “I’ll be here, waiting until you’re ready to say it back.”
