“You okay?”

“You always travel with a driver? And who is in that other car?” She peers over a shoulder at the SUV tailing us.

“Security,” I tell her.

“You need securitybecause…?”

“Occupational requirement.” I grin.

“You have a lot of these occupational requirements. What exactly do you do, Sammie?”

“A lot. My family owns several casinos on The Strip. I oversee a few different aspects of the family business.”

“You own the casino? The one we were at?”

I nod.

“So, you’re the one who’s stupid enough to spend two-hundred thousand dollars on a bar top?”

“Nope, that would be my father.”

“Right.” She rolls her eyes. “You know, it’s weird. This. You being here. You were supposed to bewhat happened in Vegas.”

“Want me to fly you back to Vegas?”

“I’m actually afraid you would,” she says.

“I could have the jet ready within the hour,” I tell her.

“Nope, let’s do this dinner thing. You’ll realize that whatever it is you’re looking for isn’t here and then you can go home.”

“I’ve already found what I’m looking for, Poppy.” I pick up her hand. “This dinner thing is because I’m fucking hungry and I want to feed you.”

When Jules pulls into the parking lot of The Valley Barn, Poppy lets out a loud breath. “Fuck.”

“What?” I ask, scanning the parking lot.

“We should go somewhere else,” she tells me.

“Why?”

“That’s my cousin’s truck.” Poppy points to a large pickup.

“And?”

She appears to consider her options for a second. “You know what? It’s fine. You got security, right?”

“They’ll be around,” I tell her.

“You might want to keep 'em close.” She smiles and then leans in and presses her lips to mine. “Just in case you don’t get to kiss me at the end of this date.”

“I plan on doing a lot more than kissing you at the end of this date, Poppy.”

“Sure, it’s good to have goals.”

When Jules opens the door, I get out and then extend a hand to Poppy.

She ignores it, slides down from the SUV, and steps around me. “Table for two or three?” she asks.
