“No,” Marlow said. “Apparently, some wires got crossed at some point, so there’s another little Bennett in the world. Bennett Crane.”
That was the second time Bennett had grabbed the glory after Marlow had done the work. It didn’t matter anymore; if it ever had. Still, one baby named after him! Was it too much to ask?
Cade looked amused. “Parting shot, huh?”
“I guess. She’s—”
This time when the phone went off, Bennett’s name flashed over the screen. Marlow went to answer it, but Cade plucked the phone out of his hands. He answered it.
“He’s busy,” Cade said.
Then he chucked the phone away into the long grass and turned his attention back to Marlow.
“Now, where was I?”
“Telling me you loved me,” Marlow said. “Which is good because I love you too.”
Cade stared at him for a moment. “Good,” he said. A grin spread over his face, and he leaned down to kiss Marlow, their bodies tangled together as he ran a hand down Marlow’s thigh. “Good to know we’re on the same page.”
Somewhere in the long grass, Marlow’s phone started to ring again. This time he ignored it.
