Chapter Nineteen
Jon and Koa ran towardMacy’s truck when they noticed he had Mina.
Koa wrenched her door open and reached for her.He gritted his teeth when she flinched from him and shook her head.
Jon laid a hand on Koa’s shoulder to keep him steady and then turned his gaze to Mina.“Baby, can we go in so we can talk?”
She shook her head at Jon.“There’s really nothing to talk about.Macy said I should face you first, and then he’ll take me into town.”
“Why do you want to leave, baby?”Jon asked.
“It’s best I do this, so you guys don’t have to push me out.I’m trying to be...”She paused and bit back the sob stuck in her throat.“Considerate.”
Koa pulled away from Jon and ran a hand through his hair, and then turned toward Mina.“What made you think we don’t want you?”
“You never want people to see me.You’ve never taken me into town with you.You keep me hidden upstairs because you’re embarrassed by me.”She raised her hand when Koa opened his mouth.“And I saw you guys with her.”
Koa and Jon frowned, looked at each other, and then back at her.
“Who?”Jon asked.
“The woman you want to be seen with.The one who fits you both better than I ever will.”
“Where the hell did you see us with a woman?”
“I dropped off something in your office and saw you on the monitor.You had your hands on her, and you kissed the top of her head.You looked so happy, and that’s when I finally got it.That’s who you should be with.That’s who you want to spend time with and show the world she’s yours.And I can’t blame you.I really can’t.I just wish you’d told me, so I didn’t have to run from you and feel like a fool.”
Koa looked at Jon.“Who the hell is she talking about?”
“The only one we touched tonight was Gloria.”
“Guys, I’m exhausted.Can you please let me go?Macy said he’d take me in town.”
