I shrieked at them to escape. They didn’t listen. They just glared at me that much harder.
General Negan was the first to die.
The aliens moved in front of me and Talyn, raising their weapons and firing without mercy. Gunshots burst loudly at the same time as lasers whizzed forward. One by one, I watched my comrades fall to the ground.
The carnage was swift and vicious.
One man’s head snapped back, a brutal shot right between the eyes bringing him down to the ground in a heap. A fireball encapsulated another. Several more lost limbs to wayward laser shots, spraying bright red blood all over the ground.
It wasn’t long before the broken road was slick with it.
I hadn’t had many friends in my renegade group of humans, but we’d all worked together to make sure we survived each day. Seeing them ripped apart like this was more terrible than anything I could have ever imagined, but knowing that they’d turn their backs on me like that was far worse.
I started to sob.
Talyn clutched at me, protecting me with his body as I broke.
I knew that he was a monster, a conqueror that would stop at nothing to defeat those that dared stand against him. He was what I’d fought against my whole life, but here I was clutching at him like a lifeline that would save me from drowning.
In that moment, though, his arms brought me comfort.
CHAPTER 7
Talyn
Her cries were very different this time. Her shoulders were shaking and when I carefully turned her toward me, the look of despair on her face was jarring.
I wanted to make it better.
I had only wanted to show her what kind of power I had by making her beg her people to surrender, but I didn’t expect them to betray her first. I should have known not to put my faith in the drivel of humanity.
I needed to fix it. Immediately.
When I’d spanked her to tears like this last night, it had made my cocks harder than they’d ever been. This was very different though. I wanted to hold her, to bring her comfort and take away her pain.
That made me feel partially human and I didn’t know what to do with that.
I grasped her chin in my hands and used my thumbs to wipe away her tears. I pulled a handkerchief from my pocket. Carefully, I tied the fabric around her eyes, blindfolding her from the battle that continued all around us. The humans didn’t stand a chance, but I didn’t want her to see any more of it. I picked her up off the ground and turned back toward my ship.
“My human is unwell. Finish this,” I commanded.
She didn’t need to see this. What was mine didn’t have to see this.
“Yes, Commander,” Eswin called out next to me. He shot off another round, ending the man racing toward him.
Swiftly, I lifted Raiza right off the ground and broke out into an all-out sprint back toward my ships. I wanted her to get away from the battlefield as fast as possible.
She hadn’t stopped sobbing. I hated that her body was shaking with her cries like this.
I ran faster, needing to get her back to my home as quickly as possible. I cursed how far I’d made her walk as I ran to my ship. It seemed to take forever to finally reach it. I slapped my hand on the palm reader with swift intent, and when the doors opened, I rushed inside.
I didn’t put her down as I powered up the ship. I kept her in my arms as I sat down, trying to soothe her even though I knew I was to blame for putting her in such a dangerous situation to begin with.
Eventually, she stopped crying. I didn’t let her go, needing to feel her warmth against me. She sniffled, reaching up and pushingthe blindfold up enough so that I could see her watery blue gaze staring back at me.
I didn’t know what to say and it appeared that she didn’t either. For several moments, she just studied me.
“I should hate you,” she whispered boldly.
