A blush coated her cheeks as she ducked her head and strolled into the kitchenette. “I like wearing your clothes.”
She shouldn’t have said that if she didn’t want me to bend her over the counter. There was no hiding my hardening dick through the sweatpants I now wore.
I gripped her hips and hoisted her onto the counter, ignoring the stinging pain from my bruised and busted knuckles. “You might be too weak from last night. I should feed you.”
She playfully slapped my bare chest. “I’m quite capable of feeding myself.”
“I'd better do it, Red.” I stabbed a piece of French toast with the fork, rolled it in syrup, and lifted it to her mouth. “Be a good girl and open wide.”
Pretty sure I’d said that a couple of times last night too.
She rolled her eyes but did as I commanded, moaning when she tasted the delectable dish from Betty’s Diner. “This is amazing.”
As I fed her a few more bites, watching the light dancing in her eyes, more life spilled into my heart. The black hole within me shrank a little more, and tiny pieces of my soul returned with each smile I won.
When she started to turn blurry, she cocked her head, brows furrowed. “What’s wrong, Kill?”
Damn it. I couldn’t stop the burning in my eyes, not when she looked at me like she did when we were kids.
“I can breathe,” I blurted, swallowing rapidly while trying to blink back tears. “For the first time in so fucking long, I can finally breathe.”
Lexi pulled me in, wrapping her legs and arms around me as I buried my head against her shoulder. “I know what you mean.”
She didn’t, though. She didn’t need me like I needed her. I’d fallen back into her orbit, and it would take a cosmic disaster to break me out of it again. And I wouldn’t survive it.
My fingers dragged down her spine as my lips brushed over her ear. “I...”Fuck, what am I doing!“I lo?—”
My phone blared into the cabin, stealing the words from my tongue.
Was I really about to tell her I loved her?
I’d probably scare her right the fuck off.
I pulled away from Lexi, averting my gaze as I grabbed my phone off the counter. Just to avoid those questioning eyes, I answered the unfamiliar number.
“I’m only going to ask you one time, Killian. Where. Is. The. Fucking. Video?”
My stomach dropped, a giant pit of dread tearing open. “Bass.”
CHAPTER 46
HURTS TO BREATHE
Lexi
Fuck. My heart shot up my throat as that name spilled from Killian’s thinned lips. Sebastian had found out we had the incriminating video, and now we were dead.
I gestured at Killian, pointing at my ears like mad until he pressed the speaker button so I could listen in on the conversation. A volley of curses exploded through the phone, and fear prickled down my spine.
“I know you and that poor little whore stole the video, you motherfucker.”
Every muscle in Killian’s body went taut, his hand clamping around my thighs. “First of all, why would you have that video on your computer, you asshole? And second of all, more importantly, watch your mouth when you talk about Lexi, or I’ll rip out your tongue next time I see you.”
“First of all,” he mimicked, “what I do is my fucking business. I have to cover my own ass. And second of all, that’s funny, little bro. Like you could touch me.”
“I can more than fucking touch you. I can send you and your father to jail with the information I have on both of you. For the rest of your lives.”
“You wouldn’t dare.”
