“And what, tell him why I suddenly need one?I’m sure that wouldn’t raise any alarms.”

“Then we’ll just have to hope no one ever walks in.”

“You’re playing with fire.”

“Oh, I know.”I step closer.

He looks up at me.“You don’t care about your residency?”

“My dad can’t take that from me,” I say firmly.“There’s no rule against staff hooking up.If I were a patient, that’d be different. But I’m not.And he can’t control this part of me.Besides, like we said, it’s not like this is more than a fling.I’ll be out of here in less than ten months.”The last few words are hard to say, because it’s not so simple anymore. The fact New York is starting to feel less tempting scares me.

Brant sighs.“He’ll care.Trust me.”

“I know. And… I care too.I know you have more to lose than I do.”

He doesn’t respond with words.Instead, he grabs my hips and pulls me down into his lap.I straddle him, my heartbeat pounding in my ears as I melt into the moment.

I kiss him like I’ve been holding my breath all shift.

And he kisses me back like he’s been dying to.

I shift a little, slowly, just enough to make him groan.

His hands tighten on my waist.“Does my resident need to get off?”

“Yes,” I whisper, needy and breathless.Every nerve in my body pulses with it.

He kisses my neck.“I don’t have a condom on me.”

I jerk back slightly.“Who doesn’t have a condom on them?”

“Well, I don’t usually plan to have sex in my office during night shift.”

I stare at him, torn between frustration and disbelief. He didn’t think about this at all when we agreed to this? But to be fair, I didn’t exactly pack protection in my bag this morning either.

“Wow.So you’re telling me, I’ve been walking around all hot and bothered for hours, and there’s no backup plan?”

“I mean,” he says with a shrug, “if I were out for the night, maybe. Then I’d throw one in my wallet, sure. But you surprised me.”

My hands still rest on his chest, smirking.“So I’m just going to keep walking around frustrated?”

“Oh, I didn’t say I wouldn’t help you with that.”

My spine straightens, and my eyebrows shoot up.“Really?”

The way he grins mischievously has me suddenly forgetting all about condoms, rules, and my father’s office just down the hall.

He lifts my hips and spins me around, setting me up on his desk for a second, then he shifts, rising to stand and places me in front of his chair.

Gently turning me, he guides me back so I’m about to sit.

“Wait,” he says.

I do and watch as he lowers my pants carefully.A flutter moves through my core as he kneels.

My breath catches when he pushes my thong down, sliding them both completely off my feet in one slow sweep, and then murmurs, “Now sit.”

The cold leather against my bare skin makes me shiver.Or maybe it’s just that I’m already so hot that I can barely think.
