She watched the closed terminal. At the screen that now showed only the default display, the city's skyline rendering in the afternoon light.
"He made a note," she said. "He didn't show it to Alistair."
A pause.
"That's interesting," the voice said. "Yes," she said. "That's exactly what it is."
She ended the call.
She fixed on the window.
Then she opened the terminal again, navigated to the active file, and added a single line to the Phase Two brief.
Subject Prescott: demonstrating independent strategic withholding. Synchronization intact.
Autonomous function increasing.
She saved the file.
Picked up her coffee.
Waited.
