Drew nods and comes over to release her from the table. When I lift her into my arms, she curls into me, her arms shaky. Part of me wants to hide her away from the others. But we’re all in this together. She’s ours.
I take her into the bathroom where Finn has the shower running. Once inside, I lower her to her feet and lean her back against my front while I put soap in my hand.
She trembles like a newborn foal. My arm wraps around her to help support her.
“You okay, trouble?”
She sighs. “Yes, sir.”
I slide my hands over her breasts and between her legs. Normally I’d get her off again, but we’re on a timeline. I turn her to face me. She rests her head against my chest as I run my hands down her back and between her ass cheeks.
“Everything feel okay? Nothing was too much?”
She burrows her face against me and shakes her head. “Just tired.”
“We’ll get home soon.”
Sara
I wake up when Wyatt lifts me into his arms from the car. Somehow I managed to stay awake to get dressed, but I’m wiped. I wrap my arms around his neck, tuck my head against his shoulder, and fall back asleep.
The next time I wake up, he’s lowering me onto the bed while Peabody barks and growls at him.
“For fuck’s sake, I’m just putting her to bed,” he mutters under his breath. He presses a kiss against my temple and draws the sheets over me. “Come on, pain in my ass. You need to go outside.”
The barking drifts away and the door shuts and I’m out again.
Voices wake me. I sit up, disoriented. I’m in my/Tom’s room. My clothes from the day are still on. Rolling off the bed, I use the bathroom and strip. When I put on my nightgown, I reach for panties, but even in my sleep-fuzzy brain, I remember the rules and leave them off.
I don’t need to give Wyatt any more reason to punish me, yet.
My door is open a crack and I walk to it.
“That’s ridiculous. Tom knows better than to get into that kind of crap.” Wyatt’s voice is soft but rough. “They’re lying.”
“I don’t think so.” Finn sounds less than jovial. “Mac swore it wasn’t a one-time deal. And it would explain the Feds.”
“Fuck.” Dante’s voice is frustrated and it sounds like he’s pacing. Everyone goes silent. “Come out, pip. You can’t stand in the doorway forever.”
I step out into the hallway. Peabody looks up at me from his bed in the living room before lowering his head again. His tail wags happily though.
Wyatt’s on the couch with a glass of whiskey. He looks whole, so Peabody didn’t tear him to pieces. Finn leans against the bar. His hair is tousled like he’s been running his hand through it. Dante stands, watching me.
It sounds like I’m going to need a drink to hear what they found out about Tom. I walk to Wyatt and sit next to him. After taking the drink from him, I swallow a mouthful and hand it back.
“Okay.” I gasp and tap on my chest as the whiskey hits me, burning down my esophagus. “Wow.”
Wyatt shakes his head and drains the rest.
“What did we find out about Tom?” I meet each of their eyes in turn, ending with Dante.
“It’s not good, pipsqueak.” Dante comes over and sits across from me. “The people those guys were looking for, apparently they needed someone good with accounting to help them hide their less savory business dealings.”
My eyes widen and I cover my mouth. “Tom was laundering money?”
“We don’t know that.” Wyatt puts his warm hand on my thigh. “Tom had new clients, but we don’t know if these were them. It’s possible he took them thinking they were legit, found out they were laundering, and that’s when he ran.”
“Why didn’t he come to us?” Dante rubs the back of his neck. He looks so tense.
