“Isn’t she your date?” Verity asks. Her blue eyes latch on to me like I’m going to go tear into Wyatt for touching Sara.
I lift my glass and take a drink of the scotch. With a very satisfied grin, I say, “Yes, she is.”
Verity looks like she wants to say more but her lips press together.
“You dated Leighton Porter a few months ago.” Olivia puts her elbows on the table and rests her chin on her hands.
“Is that a question?” I arch an eyebrow.
“Didn’t you fuck Elizabeth Hartfield because she wanted to get back at Leighton?” Olivia’s eyes are wide with interest. Like if she can’t get Finny, maybe she can get me.
Verity smirks, and it’s almost like she’s calculating what it would take to make me fuck around on Sara. I smirk right back. Such easy fucking targets. I almost shake my head.
“Yes. But they both wanted another guy. So I did them both a favor and blew that up too.” I down the rest of my drink. “Sara was there at the time. I knew she was out of my league, so I didn’t even approach her.”
“But you’re here with her now.” Olivia glances toward the dance floor.
I grin. “Yes, I am.”
“But you don’t commit to anyone either?” Olivia straightens when the other women look at her. “I mean, that’s what Leighton said. They weren’t technically an item.”
“That was then.” I catch my breath as the song ends and Wyatt leads Sara back to the table. Back to me. Her cheeks are flushed and I’m sure she’s ready to explode. I can’t wait to be there when it happens. “I’m with Sara now.”
Dante
“Any luck?” Finn walks up to me with his hands in his pockets. His tie is crooked and he looks rumpled.
“Did you drag Sara off again?” I glance in the last open doorway, but no one is outside it. Fuck. The guy must have already left.
“No. My date tried to get handsy, but I told her no means no.” Finn shakes his head. “Never thought I’d be the one to have to tell someone that.”
“I never thought you’d say that either.” I lean against the wall and look back over the crowd. “Peter Sokolov has apparently left the building.”
“Is that why you’re hunting every dark corner? If I hadn’t seen Wyatt and Sara on the dance floor, I would have thought you were looking for a spot to take her.” Finn leans on the wall next to me. His gaze lingers on Sara.
There are a lot of beautiful women in here tonight, but none shine half as bright as Sara. “She does tempt me.”
Finn chuckles. “Wyatt’s going to want to play with her first.”
Wyatt’s hand lingers on the small of Sara’s back as they return to the table. She tries to hide how he affects her, but it’s written all over her. Drew stands and pulls her into his side.
“It’s time to go.” I’m done. “We’ve gotten all the information we’re going to get here. We need to regroup and figure out how to approach this.”
Finn nods and steps away from the wall. His green eyes meet mine. “Tomorrow, right? Because I definitely need to strip her naked and lose myself inside that body. How the fuck did we stay away?”
I grunt as we walk. “Tom. He made sure to keep us away. He never let us be alone with her.”
“He let you.” Finn chuckles. “If he knew how easily you’d crack, he never would have trusted you with her.”
I shake my head. “The damage is done. I don’t know where we go from here, but I can’t imagine this being a short-term situation.”
“Me either.” Finn blows out a breath. “She might cave under the pressure from her mother and Tom. Neither will accept this. At least not right away.”
“We’ll make them understand.” I stop talking as we approach the table. Nancy looks amused at the other two women. Verity looks beyond put out and Olivia looks bored.
“Finny!” Olivia bounces up. Finn sighs before returning to her side.
“It’s time to go,” I announce before anyone can be drawn into a dance or anything else. I hold my hand down to Nancy and she lets me help her to her feet.
