“Why won’t he answer my email?” she whispers into my shoulder. “We need information and to know what we’re up against, but he ignores my every attempt to get ahold of him.”

“Maybe it’s not safe, pip.” Dante walks around my desk and cradles her head in his hand. “Maybe you’re being watched more closely than we know.”

“That doesn’t make me feel better.” She presses her forehead against my shoulder.

Something clicks into place when she’s in my arms. The way she fits against me is like she’s the piece I’ve been missing all these years. It doesn’t matter if I’m fucking her or just holding her. I meant it when I said she’s mine. She’s always been ours.

And now I have to help heal her again after Tom’s been a dick.

“We’ll figure this out, flower.” I inhale her citrus scent. “All of us. And we’ll bring Tom home.”

She lifts her head and searches my eyes. Fuck, I hope she finds what she needs in them.

“Thank you.” She cups my jaw with her hands and leans in to kiss me. It’s soft and I don’t make it into more than what it is. She needs my comfort not my cock shoved inside her.

“We’ll figure this out.” Dante meets my gaze as she slides off my lap.

Yes, we will, because the only thing that truly matters is that Sara is safe.

Chapter 32

Alternative Dispute Resolution

Sara

I’m focused on a reconciliation of accounts while trying not to think about why Tom isn’t getting back to me. I messaged him today asking him to just let me know he’s okay. That’s all I need. And to tell him that I’m doing fine.

Better than fine, if I’m being honest. Last week was scary, but this week is just so much more than I ever expected. The sex, the attention, everything.

Then I remember last night and want to hate mail my brother. He set Wyatt up with Verity Baron. My supposed best friend who stabbed me in the back so hard I’m still bleeding from it.

He had to have a reason to choose Wyatt instead of one of the other guys. In the bright light of day, I’m still struggling to understand it. I rub at the ache in my chest.

“Hey.” Wyatt’s voice startles me and it’s like I conjured him with my thoughts. He stands in the doorway, looking uncertain. That clears up and he comes in, shutting the door behind him.

I set my pencil down and lean back in Tom’s chair. Maybe this wouldn’t all be so bad if Tom were just on vacation and I wasn’t using his everything. His office, his chair, his bed, his friends. Nothing feels like mine.

Wyatt sits across Tom’s desk from me. “Dante told me about the message. Are you okay?”

“No. Yes. I don’t know.” My heart cranks at a weird pace. When I focus on numbers, I shut it all out.

“He usually sends me something by now.” Wyatt runs his hand through his hair and his dark eyes hold mine. “We don’t even know if that email was from Tom. Anyone can send an email.”

Email. My brain spins. I hold up a hand and pick up my phone. I call a number I haven’t called for months and put it on speaker.

“Noah Burns.” His voice fills the room.

Wyatt lifts his eyebrow.

“Hey, Noah. It’s Sara.” I draw in a breath. The month I dated Noah was probably the easiest fake dating in the world. We have similar interests and could talk for hours. There’s no spark between us, but he became a good friend.

“How are you?” Noah switches from speaker to his phone. “Madison’s been worried.”

I glance at Wyatt. “I’m good. Did she tell you my brother left?”

“She mentioned it.” Noah blows out a breath. “Is there anything I can do to help?”

I smile because I love that he offered first. “Tom responded to an email from my mom. I was hoping you guys could do your thing and find out if it’s legit and where it might have come from.”
