The others are waiting for me when I come out in the green dress. The dip in the front goes almost to my belly button. I’ll need some tape to make sure my breasts stay covered. The straps wrap around my shoulders, leaving my back and sides completely bare. There’s a V right above my low back before the skirt slides down over my hips and to the floor.
It’s bolder than anything I’ve dared to wear before, but imagining how the guys will look at me has me heated.
“Fuck,” Kayla whispers. “You sure you aren’t looking for a fifth in your harem, because damn girl.”
My lips curve into a smile as I check myself out in the mirror.
“You might cause a catfight at your table when the women realize your men can’t take their eyes off you in this dress.” Madison’s eyes light with determination. “You should take it. Teach them that the only woman worth having is you.”
I smooth the dress over my hips. The silk feels like a caress against my skin. I won’t be able to wear much, if anything, under this.
“It’s a shame really.” Hope grins. “That dress won’t survive once you get home.”
No, it probably won’t. My smile widens.
“I think we should place bets on if they even let her out the door in it.” Kayla smirks. “I know if you were mine, I’d have you out of it and in my bed where you belong.”
My cheeks flush.
Kayla laughs. “I know. I know. Not your type. But every woman is going to be envious of the looks the men will give you in this dress.”
My brows furrow. Do I want that much attention?
Madison steps up next to me and touches my arm. “Tonight is going to be rough. My first night out with the guys and their dates was hard. I almost lost it so many times. You look sexy and gorgeous and amazing in this dress. You need something to make you feel powerful, and trust me, that bitch won’t see you coming.”
I smile and turn, taking Madison’s hand and squeezing it. “I’m going to need jewelry to make this even more of a mindfuck for those women.”
Madison’s blue eyes sparkle. “I know just where to go.”
Chapter 46
Asset Turnover
Sara
“Deidre researched investing in this store.” Madison pulls open the door and ushers us into the entryway. Deidre Bryne is Madison’s mentor and the kind of powerhouse we all hope to be someday. She’s also talked about teaching Madison to take over her company, Cliodhna, and it’s fast becoming all our dreams to help lead it with her at the helm.
When the door to the street is closed, the inner door to the store opens for us. A giant of a man dressed in a black suit guards the door. He nods to Madison as she passes. “Ms. Harris.”
Hope’s eyes are huge as she takes in the diamonds and gemstones surrounding us. Kayla gives the guard a once-over and a flirty smile, but he doesn’t really change his expression. Madison takes my hand and leads me over to a case.
“Coop loves to drape me in diamonds.” She leans in close and says quietly, “When he heard that Deirdre had taken me to this store, he insisted on opening an account and bringing me here.”
She takes in our surroundings. A few other customers mill around. It’s hard to tell who works here and who’s a customer. Everyone is dressed to impress.
“I don’t need that many diamonds,” she says. Her cheeks turn pink. “But he likes to stake his claim on me however he can.”
She touches her necklace, unintentionally flashing her antique engagement ring. They don’t really talk about a wedding, but she doesn’t take off that ring. I don’t blame her. It’s gorgeous.
“Do you have a budget?” she asks softly.
I clear my throat. I don’t usually talk about money with my friends. They didn’t grow up with money like I did. That means they don’t throw it away like some of my old friends did. “I have an allowance.”
And a trust fund I rarely touch. It helps with college, but I don’t need a lot. I live at home by choice and because it makes Mom feel better having me close by. I’m not an excessive shopper.
Madison nods and Hope calls her over. I turn to follow, but a long trail of diamonds catches my eyes. When I step closer, a gentleman in a suit steps up to the case with me.
I shift away from him slightly. Does he work here? Or is he another customer? There are a few other people wandering around the store with us.
