“I’m proud of you, too.” He lifted her hand and kissed it as they made their way down the stairs. She grabbed the sunscreen from her pool bag and pointed him over to the lounge chair by the umbrella. “Come on, let’s get you covered.” Matt grinned as he sat on the chair. He knew she couldn’t resist the excuse to get her hands all over him.

Matt felt like the luckiest bastard ever as he slathered sunblock on Rosie’s fair skin.

The cardiologist hadn’t been worried about Matt’s weight but told him not to overdo the cardio if he decided to work out. If he ate healthy and kept up with his appointments, he’d be fine.

Rosie had talked him into swimming with his shirt off. “It’s just your family,” she’d reminded him. He’d been reluctant until Rosie informed him she’d buy a two-piece bathing suit so he wouldn’t feel alone. That had him agreeing enthusiastically and looking forward to Olivia’s birthday party like nothing else.

And she was sleeping in his room tonight.

He rubbed the white cream into her lower back, trying to will his hard-on down. It was no use. The galaxy print bikini was his wet dream come to life. Thank goodness the other guys only had eyes for their girls.

“Marco!” called Caleb, roaming around the pool with his arms outstretched.

Cries of “Polo!” echoed around the water. Caleb lunged toward Nadia, who was the closest, and grabbed her — by the breast.

Matt cringed as the slap reverberated against the brick walls of the house.

“Fuck, that hurt! You’re it … Oh, shit.” Caleb had opened his eyes and realized Nadia was standing in front of him holding her boob.

“You were peeking! Cheater!”

“Nad, I wasn’t, I swear! I didn’t mean to!” The argument continued until Dad bellowed that dinner was done.

After dinner, cake, and presents, Matt switched the pool heater on and got back in the water with Rosie.

“Only about a month left of school. Are you excited to be done?”

“Definitely.” He was eager to move on to the rest of his life.

“Are you … are you moving back home?”

His heart stilled, and he turned to face Rosie in the water. They hadn’t discussed what his future plans were.

“No. I’m not leaving you ever again.” He cupped her face and kissed her soundly on the mouth. “I’m going to ask the landlord about renting me Olivia’s apartment when her lease is up. Bruce said if I want it, the assistant manager job is mine when I graduate. I can start saving up money to start my own restaurant.”

Rosie floated into his arms and held him tight. “You could save it faster if you moved in with me.”

He wrapped his arms around her. “Are you sure?”

Giggling, Rosie lifted her face to his. “It doesn’t make sense to keep two apartments when we’re with each other all the time anyway.”

Matt grinned. He’d always take more time with Rosie.

She started to shiver in his arms, and he led her towards the stairs. “Let’s get into the shower, I need to rinse the chlorine off.”

Rosie smirked. “That’s not all you wanna do, is it?”

He grinned. “Are you objecting?”

“No way.” She wrapped her towel around her and slipped her sandals on. “I have something to tell you, anyway.”

“Oh?” He stilled. They were completely alone out here, and someone might overhear if she told him inside. “Tell me now.”

Leaning forward, she spoke in a loud whisper. “We don’t need to use condoms anymore.”

His swim trunks couldn’t hide his body’s reaction. “You got on the pill?”

“The shot, actually, but yes.”
