“Okay,” Katie giggled some more. “Can I take your picture together?”
“Please!” Duncan wrapped an arm around Aurora, and they smiled as Katie snapped a photo.
“Hey, let’s do a dip picture.”
“Okay,” Aurora said as she laughed. She turned to face him, let him position his hand at the small of her back, and took his other hand.
“Three, two, one,” he counted, and she threw her head back as he dipped her.
“Look athim, Mom!” their photographer commanded.
She corrected her pose, and the camera clicked. He gave her his best smile, while his heart did flips. He brought her up slowly, mindful of her back.
“Thanks, guys!” Katie grinned.
“Have fun at Jade’s tonight. Call Aunt Lizzie if you need anything.” Aurora hugged her daughter and kissed her forehead.
“You too, Mom!”
Duncan put her hand in the crook of his elbow as he led her toward the doors. “She’s lovely.”
“I know.”
“When did you start wearing perfume?”
“Around the time I graduated college. I only wear it for special occasions.” She paused. “Is that surprising?”
“Maybe a little.” He turned to look at her. “What is it?”
“Sandalwood and amber. I can’t do flower scents.”
“It’s intoxicating.”
She glanced up at him through her lashes. “Well, thank you.”
“Oh my God, Aurora! Where did you get that dress?”
Duncan released her hand and took a step back as Jen approached for a hug. Her gown was a slinky number with a V-neck and a slit up one leg in light blue chiffon that matched her eyes. She’d probably bought it from a bridal boutique.
“You look incredible.”
“Thank you, so do you.”
“Is it from that Rent the Runway website?”
“No, I actually sewed it myself.”
“Shut up.”
“It’s true! Ask Katie. She helped me pick the fabric.”
Duncan smiled widely as he put an arm around her shoulders. He couldn’t stop touching her. “You always were full of surprises.”
“It’s incredible. You’re so talented, it’s disgusting. I am disgusted by my lack of talent around you.” Jen turned around as Dave, Jerry, and Mike approached. “She says she made this dress herself.”
“Girl,” Jerry said and clicked his tongue. “I know some drag queens that need your number.”
“I’m no professional. I sew for my own amusement, as my mom used to say.” She smiled. “You all look incredible too.” Roar had an adorable blush rising up from her chest to her neck thanks to all the compliments.
