Personally, I didn’t think that was a good idea.
Chapter 4
Brittani
Three days later, I’m frowning as I stare out the window of my little place. I love it here, I do. But I want a drink. A night where I can just find a random stranger and drink and dance the night away. But I’m not going to find it here and that’s the problem.
With a sigh, I pat my dogs on the head, knowing I need to head a town or two over. Certainly, didn’t need anything coming back to the people around here. Especially with them all knowing who I was.
“I’ll be back later guys, food is ready and Janice will check in on you. Mama needs a night to forget things.”
And by that, I meant a certain tattoo grump who was making me cringe.
I thought after our late-night tattoo session we might have gotten closer. You know, a ‘hi’ on the street or something, but the truth was, nope, that didn’t happen. In fact, if it was possible, he pulled away even more and that worried me.
I texted Janice that I was headed out and begged her to come check up on the dogs. She sent a smiley face, and I couldn’t help but shake my head.
I grabbed my keys, and headed out, driving an hour and a half to escape this town and this gossip. I needed a stranger, just someone to give me a fun night and to make me believe that it wasn’t me that was repelling men here.
With a grin, I finally stopped at a local bar, almost giddy at the music blaring. There had to be someone here who could help me. And if not, there was a hotel right next door that I could rent a room and sleep off a drunken night.
I walked into the building, bopping my head to the beat playing through the speakers and made my way to the bar, ordering an Amaretto Sour. While I waited, I looked around the room.
“Perfect,” I muttered.
The bartender put the drink down and I took a sip, enjoying the flavors before looking around again. The song changed and I felt my hips swaying even more, needing to be moving rather than just standing here. With a groan, I took another big drink, looking for something to put on my drink.
“Don’t you dare leave that unwatched.”
I froze at the sound of that voice before slowly glancing over at my shoulder.
“You’re here, feel free to watch it.”
Before Keith could protest, I was on the floor, dancing with the biggest smile on my face. I swirled my hips with the beat, feeling his eyes on me. I didn’t want to dance for anyone but me, but it sure was nice to feel like I was dancing for him.
When the song ended, I ran back to where he sat at the bar and downed my drink, making him cock a brow at me.
“Keith, if you wanted to do something to me, you had plenty of time when you were tattooing me. Doing something to my drink here seems rather pointless, don’t you think?”
“I guess. Why are you here?”
I bit my lip, not sure what to tell him. That he was the very reason why I was in another town, wanting someone to smile at me like I meant something.
“Needed a drink.”
“We have a bar in town, Brittani.”
“Needed to dance?”
“The bar has a dance floor.”
“Not a big one, Keith. Besides, everyone there knows me and me asking for a dance wouldn’t happen. They would all tell me no. I want someone to hold me while they swing me around the floor. Is that so much to ask?”
I waved to get the bartender’s attention, missing the flash of something dark that crossed his face. But his hand on my waist brought me up short.
“You want to dance with someone? Someone who won’t tell you no?”
“Yes.” I took the drink, downing it just as fast as I had the first one. “Is that hard to believe?”
