She kicked him again.

“To have your abilities, the very essence of who you are, taken from you.”

Zachariah reared back to punch her, but she spun, dodging the attack only to kick him in the face and smile triumphantly as he went down.

“This is impossible,” he bit out. “There’s no way you could be stronger than me.”

She smiled and let him get up before she looked him dead in his eyes. “I’ve always been stronger than you. A fucking ant is stronger than you. You just had opportunity and a sick, perverse agenda funded by an absolute bitch. Your only strengths were your powers and your ability to hold things over another person’s head. Without those you’renothing. And the moment, the fuckingsecondyou touched my mate, you were never going to make it out of here alive.”

He roared and moved to attack her, but Johanna was quicker, freezing his body in place.

The windows shattered and the doors slammed open as twenty of Zachariah’s men invaded the house.

“Am I supposed to be scared?” Johanna said. They tried to move, but she froze them in place as well. “When you started losing, you stopped focusing on whatever magic it was that let you mask your group. But now that the gangs all here, I think it’s time to say goodbye.”

Johanna dug deep inside of herself, pouring everything she could into her attack, every ounce of rage, betrayal, and hurt fueled her power. She raised her hands to the ceiling as the men struggled to break free of her magic, but she wouldn’t let them. She looked at Luke’s sleeping form one more time before she slammed her hands down to her sides.

Her power surged through the house, and then the building caved in on itself. Every inch of the roof and every section of every floor imploded and crashed down upon Zachariah and the men he’d brought with him.

Johanna staggered under her magic, but she refused to fall. Her job wasn’t done yet.

She reached for the dagger Luke forced her to carry, and went to the last place she’d seen Zachariah. Using her magic, she lifted the heavy stone and concrete to reveal his crushed form. Even though she believed he was dead, she had to make sure. She pushed the knife through his flesh, skull, and into his brain, but only when she pulled it out was she satisfied.

Then she fell. Weak and tired, she crawled over to Luke and pulled him into her arms. The battle may have been over, but the one inside of him was still raging strong. Johanna was sure that when he came to, he would still be under the effects of Constance’s possession magic, and there was only one thing she thought could break it.

Using the last ounces of her strength, Johanna teleported them both to Dani and Greg’s house. She struggled to breathe, the exertion of her powers taking over, but still she fought her unconsciousness. She had to take care of Luke. He had to be okay.

They crash-landed in the kitchen.

“What the fuck?” Dani yelled as she sprung up from her seat, cradling her bump.

“Johanna, what happened?” Greg asked.

“It was Zachariah.” Johanna looked around. “Where’s Mya?”

“Mya? Wait. What do you mean Zachariah? Johanna, what the fuck happened?” Dani said.

“We don’t have time! Please, I think Mya can help me get him back to normal. Where is she?”

Greg already had her on the line. “She’s getting here as fast as she can.”

“How long?” Johanna asked, running her hand over Luke’s cheek.

“Twenty minutes,” Greg said.

“Tell her to hurry, please. I don’t know how much longer I can stay conscious.” Johanna groaned. The feedback from the amount of power she used hit her all at once and she screamed as pain flew through her.

Dani held onto her as she swayed. “Johanna!”

“I’m fine. I’ll be fine. I just used too much power.”

Greg came to her side. “What can we do to help you?”

“Nothing.” She looked up at him. “Zachariah must have ambushed Luke at our house. They gave him Constance’s blood and he’s under her possession magic. I forced him to sleep, but the last command Zachariah gave him was to hurt me. If I fall unconscious, it’s the first thing he’ll do.”

“How do we get him out of it?” Dani asked.

“Blood. I’m going to try to force my powers into him through my blood. I think if we mix that with Mya’s then it will sever the magic.”
