“Keeping the both of us up all night,” Dani said, curling into Greg’s side.

“Already?” Johanna asked.

“Well, our little one is already telling me what they prefer to eat, and if I try anything else I have a horrible case of nausea.”

Luke frowned. “Is our healing magic not working?”

Greg shook his head. “I think it’s because Ella’s human, and since we’re still in the first trimester it’s too early to change her into a vampire.”

Luke coughed into his hand to keep from laughing at the look Dani gave Greg when he said ‘we,’ as if he was also carrying the baby. But then it cleared, and Dani smoothed Greg’s furrowed brows. “You worry too much.”

They shared a look which Johanna caught. “Is everything okay?” she asked.

Dani and Greg shared another look and then they both stared at Luke. He understood immediately: Zachariah.

Johanna shifted by his side, drawing his gaze. “Go ahead and talk, I’ll just—”

“No,” Luke said.

“Stay, really,” said Dani.

“We just don't want to make you uncomfortable,” Greg added.

Johanna lips turned upward, but the action didn’t match her blank eyes.

“I want you to stay, but only if talking about this won’t hurt you,”Luke said to her telepathically as he squeezed her hip.

She nodded to him. “I’ll be fine. Please, go ahead.”

Dani sighed. “We still haven’t found him.”

Greg ran his fingers through her hair. “And he’s been entirely too quiet for my liking.”

“How many of the coordinates have you been able to visit?” Johanna asked.

“Almost all of them. At first, we’d at least find some of his people,” Dani said.

“But lately the locations have either been vacant or full of traps.” Greg’s tone softened as he addressed Johanna. “I think he knows that you’re with us, and we’re concerned he’s just biding his time. Ella and I actually discussed canceling this event.”

“I’m happy you didn’t. You both deserve this. He shouldn’t get to ruin it,” Johanna said, her voice so stern that Luke knew she wasn’t just talking about what Greg and Dani deserved, but what she deserved as well.

“Johanna’s right,” Luke said. “This is a celebratory event, and an important one. We all need tonight.” He patted Greg’s shoulder. “I’m happy you didn’t cancel.”

Greg nodded, yet the frown on his face didn’t disappear.

“I…” Johanna began, then she rolled her shoulders back and met their eyes. “I’m sorry I still can’t remember anything. I can’t be of more help in that regard, but I can at least help you to ease your mind now if you’re concerned about security.”

Greg’s eyebrows rose. “Really? How?”

“A psychic net. I can connect to each person’s mind here and create a net. If someone sees any type of suspicious activity, it’s immediately reported back to all of us at the same time. That way we can make sure Dani and the baby are safe while also investigating the issue,” Johanna explained.

Luke rubbed her hip. “Doesn’t that use a lot of magic?”

Johanna shook her head. “No, it’s rudimentary for me. It’s more of a dormant thing that will only be activated when the criteria is met.”

Dani squeezed her hand. “That would be amazing. Thank you, Jo.”

Johanna looked pleased with herself, but Luke still wasn’t sure. He leaned down and dropped a kiss on her temple while he spoke to her again telepathically.
