See, Grayson and I couldn’t forget the day our eyes landed on her, and after our first night together as husband and wife, we phoned the Sisters, telling them it was in our hearts to adopt Baby Amelia.

As it turned out, another family was in the process of offering her their forever home.

Our hearts sank.

But we carried on, deciding I’d stay off birth control in hopes we’d soon have a baby of our own.

Sure, it may have been soon in our newlywed relationship, but Grayson and I believe that life is too short, prompting us to assume the Why Wait? philosophy.

Sister Roberta contacted us a month later to say Baby Amelia still hadn’t found her forever home. For whatever reason—fate?—the other family had to back out of the process.

The news just so happened to come on the same day we learned I was four weeks pregnant.

“Do you still want her?” Roberta had asked.

“Yes!” we’d told her.

Straightaway, Grayson and I transformed the room closest to ours into a pink-and-white-walled nursery equipped with everything a baby princess could ever want.

And now the day is finally here. The day the adoption is official.

Sister Julie passes Baby Amelia over to me. “I’ll miss her, but you two are going to make fine parents, blessing this little girl in more ways than one.”

My heart swells, affected by the flush of love.

Grayson.

Amelia.

Baby on the way.

And I’ve found it all.
