“I’m sorry to do it today of all days, but I figured you’d want to know as soon as I knew anything.”

“Don’t be sorry. This means a lot to me. Thank you.” Maverick says, then looks down at me.

“Are you ready?” He asks with a smile and I nod.

“Always.” He helps me into the car, and slides in next to me.

The driver puts the car in gear, and we leave Perdition’s grounds. Once on the interstate, Maverick leans into me and whispers.

“I can’t wait to get you out of this dress, Mrs. Cain.” A shudder of excitement runs through my body, and I shift to look at him.

“We have nothing but time, Mr. Cain.” I reply, and smile up at him.

“Forever.” He whispers and I nod.

“Forever.”

One Year Later

“Alright everybody, gather around. Here’s your assignments for the day.” My voice booms as one hundred and fifty sets of eyes meet my gaze. We are at day shift's daily meeting held in The Pit of Perdition. I’ll give out posts to each member of the team, and give them a brief overview of what happened during the night shift.

Karson, Cole and Slater come to stand beside me, and I begin telling everyone where they will go. I split them in groups of thirty, one group to cover each tower and another for the main area. Coming to the last four men standing by, I give them their posts.

“Cole, you’re over in Hades today. There’s a boxing match taking place at four p.m. Gather a team of ten and take them to the arena with you.”

“You got it.” He says and walks over to the group I assigned Hades to, and picks his team.

“Slater, obviously you’re up in the booth. Grab Jeremy and two more guys you trust and take them with you.” He nods and finds the three menhe’s been training in surveillance, then they make their way to the security room.

“What kind of fuckery am I in for today, Mav?” Karson asks, coming to stand in front of me.

“You’re going over to Abaddon.” I start and I watch his eyes light up like a christmas tree.As if he didn’t already know. After the casino opened, he all but demanded that it be his only post. I don’t care much, he's still effective, but he’s definitely preoccupied with one of the bartenders.

“Elias will go with you.” I say and watch his shoulders deflate. Elias steps up beside me and gives me a pat on the back.

“Maverick.” He states in greeting and I reach out to shake his hand. Elias is in his fifties, with salt and pepper hair and stubble on his face to match. He stands about six foot five with cold green eyes that slide from me to Karson, who stares at our exchange.

“You want me to takehimover to Abaddon? Can he even keep up in an area like that?” Karson mocks and I laugh, shaking my head.

“I’ll run circles around you, you fucking punk.” Elias states cooly adjusting the sleeves on his shirt while Karson glares at him.

“He’s the only other person we have whocanhandle an area like Abaddon.” I tell him mildly irritated. “He’ll fuck you up Karson and you know it.” Karson scoffs.

“Father time over here can fuck me up? Yeah, okay Mav.” Elias calmly steps away from me and stands in front of Karson, who’s giggling like a little kid. In a flash, Elias delivers a fist directly into Karson’s throat. His hands fly to his neck on instinct, Karson doubles over and coughs, trying to catch his breath.

“What the fuck was that for?” He wheezes.

“Watch your mouth, Tate.” Elias says and Karson pulls himself together.

“Fuck alright, fine. You can tag along, old man.” He says reluctantly, rubbing his throat.

“Karson.” I warn. His need to push buttons is going to get him in some shit eventually, which is exactly why I paired them together.

“Where the fuck are you going, anyways? We’re always together.” Karson questions.

“I’ve been here for twelve hours. I’m going home to my wife.” I tell him and he smirks.

“Tell my Babe I said hellooo.” He winks and Elias handles my dirty work, smacking Karson upside the back of his head.
