CONNOR: Yessir. Orlando here I come.
LANDON: FYI Mom’s out. It’s just us.
RAWLEY: Oh shocker
LANDON: I’m inviting a few teammates and others who don’t have family plans. I think we have 20 or so total.
RAWLEY: Dang. Any hot friends of Rori’s coming?
LANDON: Rawls…seriously, don’t start.
CONNOR:
LANDON: And Grace, don’t plan on bringing him. Please. He’s not invited.
RAWLEY: That’s cold. She didn’t even ask.
CONNOR: “The quarterback who shall not be named.”
LANDON: I’m glad you guys are having a good time with this, but I’m serious. Okay Grace?
I put the phone aside and sigh, not responding. It’s now been almost two weeks since Johnson’s injury—since Landon found out about us—and he’s still freezing him out.
“No, it’s not okay,” I want to say to Landon. “He’s my boyfriend.” I hold myself back because I know that, at this point, Johnson and he need to work this out directly.
How that’s going to happen if Landon won’t even speak with him is the issue.
CHAPTER 44
Grace
When I get back to Johnson’s house after class the next Monday—I’ve barely gone home in two weeks, except to get more clothes—I don’t immediately see him in any of the common rooms.
“Honey, where are you?”
“In here, Goldie,” he calls from an unexpected area, his home gym.
Oh wait, why is he in there?
I speed into the space, now slightly concerned. When I catch sight of him, he’s walking on the treadmill.
“What are you doing? Is that allowed?”
He grins ear to ear. “Yup. I’m officially cleared for light to moderate exercise, including walking.”
“Oh yay! That’s awesome.”
He hits the button to stop the treadmill. After he steps off, he rests his hands on my shoulders and plants a kiss on my forehead.
“That’s not all,” he says in a lower voice. “I’ve been cleared for light to moderate bedroom activities too.”
“Do I even want to ask what the difference between a moderate and heavy bedroom activity is?” I joke.
“We may need to make another list,” he teases. “I think theymean not picking you up and throwing you around for a bit longer.”
“Shame.” I giggle.
“But there’s so much more we can do again.”
