“He’s not a client. That’s just Mark.”

“Just Mark? I beg your finest pardon? You know him? Mark is gorgeous. How come I’ve never heard of him?”

“It’s new. We’ve known each other for almost a year because our friends all run in a bit of a circle due to Sydney and Colin. To be honest, we didn’t really start off all that friendly, but somewhere along the way, things changed.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah. I think I really like him.” I sigh, smiling dreamily at her.

“Good for you, girl. You deserve it.”

My phone line buzzes. It’s the temp standing in for Colleen who’s out on maternity leave.

“Yes?”

“Um, yeah, there’s a man here who says you guys have a lunch date?”

“Yes,” I giggle at how flustered she sounds. Mark could rile up any woman who looks his way with just a smile. “Tell Mark I’m on my way up.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“I’ll see you in a bit, Sami,” I say, walking by to go see the gorgeous man in our lobby.

“Does he have a brother?” she whisper-shouts to me as she walks back into her office, and I shake my head and giggle.

Rounding the corner, I see that she’s right. He is absolutely gorgeous. Today, he’s wearing a navy M&E Construction tee that fits him like he was born to wear it. His biceps and forearms look tan from working out in the sun and threaten to bust out of his sleeves. Internally, I’m swooning and thinking about how fast I can get my lips on him. He’s standing near the door looking at photos of the families we’ve helped throughout the years with a hand in the front pocket of his jeans. The temp is staring all dreamy-eyed at him, so I tap the desk to snap her out of it. She’s like twenty years old, and it shows.

“Hey…” I greet him, and he turns to me, flashing that gorgeous smile of his.

“Hi, Bella.”

I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of him calling me beautiful. I hear the temp exhale wistfully, and we both look her way. She blushes and looks down at her appointment book like she has something seriously important to find.

“Ready for lunch?”

“Ready.”

Opening the door for me, he follows me out with a hand at the small of my back. He leads me to the side lot where his truck is parked and being the gentleman he is, opens my door. Before I can climb up, Mark snags me around the waist and crushes his lips to mine. I toss my bag onto the seat so I can tangle my fingers in his hair. His hands slide up under the back of my blazer and trace my back through my shirt. I sigh into his kiss, eating up the attention. He pulls away an inch hesitantly, hovering his lips over mine.

“That has been on my mind all morning.”

“Mmmm… that was a nice hello,” I say. He pecks my lips with his.

“I couldn’t very well have done that in front of the receptionist. She might’ve fainted.”

“You showing up put all the ladies in the office on alert.”

“Oh, is that so?” He grins devilishly.

“Hello, have you looked in the mirror lately?”

“No, please tell me more about how gorgeous you think I am.”

I smack playfully at his chest, but he just grabs that hand, pulling me back in for another kiss that leaves me breathless.

“Food, Mark. I need a burger with a ton of pickles.”

“I’ve got–” Mark starts, but I shoot him a no nonsense look, and he stifles a chuckle instead of finishing his sentence.“Yes, ma’am,” he answers instead and helps me up into the truck.
