“I can do more than that.” She giggles, and Jagger lets out a breath like something just settled in his chest.

“Then move,” Jagger orders, but she doesn’t listen. Her gaze falls onto me again.

“Who are you?” she asks, taking me in. I meet her eyes and hold them.

“Vinny,” I answer, and her smile softens just a fraction.

“Shadow,” she whispers, but I don’t react. I store it away because she said it like it meant something. The alarms cut sharper and Killian damn near hits the floor from how loud it is. Lolli runs up beside him, comforting him, which seems to help because the tension in his body that was coiling tight seconds ago seems to have diminished with a simple touch from her.

Boots hit the far end of the hall. Guards. Too many. Too fast.

“They’re coming,” Lucifer states, rolling his shoulders. Jagger steps forward, putting himself between her and everything else. He’s so fucking predictable. I move anyway. Not in front. Not behind. But beside her where I can see everything. Where nothing gets close without me knowing. She glances at me again then giggles. God, she’s perfect. I want to hear her giggle over and over again.

“This place is fun,” she says as the lights flicker again, harder this time. Somewhere down the hall something crashes and someone screams. The building isn’t holding anymore. It’s cracking. I look over at her, taking in the way she stands here like she belongs in the middle of it. She’s pure chaos. Not prey, that quiet thought surfaces again. No, not prey. Something else.

“Which way?” Lucifer asks, and she doesn’t hesitate pointing down a darker hallway.

“Good choice,” Jagger grins, and we move. Together. Behind us, the alarms keep screaming. The doors keep locking and the guards keep shouting but in front of us. She walks like this place is hers. I fall into step beside her again, close enough so I can hear her breathe. She’s smiling. Good. This is just the beginning, and Hillsboro… it has no idea what it just let out.

They never listen

Lolli-Gag

We continue down the dark hall that shouldn’t feel darker than the others but does. The alarms still blare as the lights flicker. Red. White. Red. White. Jagger is in front, with Killian behind him as Lucifer drifts at my side while Vinny is on my left. Quieter than the rest of them. I feel him more than I see him. “Left,” I say, and they don’t question it. I’ve been in this place longer than everyone so it’s only right that they trust me to navigate us through this hell hole here. Fuck! Wrong turn as a guard rounds the corner—then another.

“Stop!” one of them shouts, and I laugh.

“No.” Then everything explodes. Movement. Noise. Bodies colliding. Jagger hits first. Hard and fast like he’s been waiting for it. Killian moves with precision while Lucifer waits a second longer, like he’s choosing before he strikes. Vinny disappears though. That was my first glimpse into him.

The first guard goes down loud. Jagger’s doing. The second one doesn’t make a sound. Not at all. I turn and there he is—Vinny. Behind him, the guard is still standing but then he isn’t,he just folds, like something invisible cut the strings holding him up. No noise. No warning. No struggle, just—gone.

“Pretty,” I say as my smile widens. Vinny glares at me like his kill was nothing. More shouting comes from behind us followed by the sounds of heavy boots coming our way.

“Move!” Jagger snaps, and we do, but fuck! The hall splits into too many different directions.

“Make a decision. There’s too many coming,” Killian growls. Someone grabs my hand and pulls me, then pushes as the chaos splits us apart. Killian disappears left as Jagger barrels forward into someone while Lucifer laughs behind me, but then—I’m alone. I spin in confusion as everything goes silent. Then a hand grabs me again, pulling me into an empty room. My head tilts as he places his finger over his lips then points to the window on the door. We both look out of it and see the guards passing right by. I grin then look at him.

“You’re fast,” I whisper, and he shrugs.

“You’re loud,” he whispers back, making me grin.

“I like it that way.” But he doesn’t say anything. Everything seems to quiet down. The alarms fade and the sounds outside of this room are muted. It’s just me and him.

“You didn’t hesitate,” I say as his eyes snap to mine.

“I don’t.”

I step closer to him, crowding his space. He doesn’t move.Interesting.“Most people do.”

“I’m not most people,” he says as his arm lifts and his fingers graze my cheek.

“Neither am I,” I say as something passes through him. His eyes darken and he licks his lips. He shifts and leans his back against the door, and I move with him, leaning in close enough to feel his breath fan against my face. “You saw it, didn’t you?” I whisper.

“Yes,” he says, and I smile.

“Good.”

The lights in the hall flicker again as something crashes down the hall. His hands find my hips, pulling me closer to him.
