But hearing yet another of my best friends’ is gettingmarried…Wow.

“I have,” Colin says, scratching the back of his neck. “We’re getting married tomorrow. Nothing big or fancy. Just family and closest friends.”

That’s a little last-minute, I’d say.

“You’re twenty-five years old,” Aaron says. “Don’t you think that’s a little… early?”

Early? I look at Aaron with confusion, as does Colin. Miles got married just before turning twenty-two. And Aaron got marriedbeforehe turned twenty-five. In fact, he just turned twenty-five today.

Colin ends up shaking his head, not letting Aaron know that we do, in fact, know he’s already married. “I wanted to marry her an hour after I met her.”

I don’t doubt it. I knew something was off with Colin the second he said heneededto find Lily because she forgot her notebook in the ice hockey arena at St. Trewery.

“We’re talking about starting a family sometime in the future. We’re not getting any younger, and Lily wants at least two children before the age of thirty. So, no, I don’t think it’s early,” he adds.

She does? The last time someone mentioned kids, Lily said she didn’t want any because she feared they might inherit her depression. But if they decided they do want some now, that’s also great.

And still, somehow Colin talking about kids irks me a little. I take a seat right across from him, sliding a hand down my face. “You’re at the peak of your career, Carter.” I could never imagine giving up hockey to start a family. Not yet.

“And that means I can’t have a wife and start a family?” He looks at Aaron, asking, “What if Sofia told you she wanted to get married, would you tell her no?”

Clearly not.

Aaron lets out a deep breath, but he doesn’t answer. If he said he would tell her no, he’d be lying.

But then Aaron points a finger at Colin, his eyes narrowed. I’ve never seen him so mad at Colin, but I suppose hearing your best friend is getting married to your twin sister does that. “Fuck her over and I’ll come for you,” he says, his voice low and threatening.

“Fuck her over what?” Colin asks, smirking like the asshole he is. “An open fire? Sounds dangerous.”

Aaron scrunches up his face in disgust to which Colin starts to laugh. “Well, congratulations on your engagement, Fairy Godmother.” Aaron slaps a hand to Colin’s back.

I can’t believe he’s still calling him that. I stopped doing it about two years ago. Colin got that nickname after he was punished for skipping practice to be with Lily in our senior year of college. He had to wear a tutu and a cropped top that Aaron got from Lily, and costume wings.

It was hilarious.

I smile, nodding my head at Colin, just about to congratulate him when I realize, “Did you propose to her on thephone?”

If he asked Lily to marry him weeks ago, he would’ve told us then. So when he’s only telling us now, that means… Shit. That guy.

“It was a last-minute decision, okay?” He defends himself. “We were on the phone, talking, and then I just blurted it out. We got our marriage license months ago anyway because we said when we got married, it was supposed to be spontaneous. And that it is.”

Certainly. “Congratulations, Colin.”

“Thanks.”

How dare I be the last one of us to not be married? I always thought if one of usevergot married, it would be me, not either of them.

Colin never even so much as looked for love in his life. He was happy with ice hockey. Aaron preferred to whore around, as it turned out, because the love of his life was too far away, but they found each other. And Miles? He never wanted to find anyone after the mother of Brooke presumably died.

At least I’m not single anymore.

“Do you think Luan could make it to the wedding? We’d love to have him there,” Colin says, toying with his skates like he’s nervous to even admit that.

See, I told Luan they’d like him.

“It’s a five-hour flight, so that won’t be the problem. It’s more about how spontaneous he can leave, but I’ll ask.”

As I take out my phone to shoot Luan a text, the locker room doors swing open and the rest of the team, including Coach Carter and Coach Brenner—our vice coach—come storming inside.
