“On another note, maybe he didn’t ask you out because how would you even know he’s into guys?” Sun queries, watching me switch my shirt over and over again.
What the fuck is wrong with me?
The last time I acted like this wasnever. I didn’t even get nervous when my ex-boyfriend and I were in our getting-to-know-each-other phase, or when I started to crush on him big time. It was all calm. It was great.
So what the fuck is this?
“He said he had a boyfriend before.” If I remember correctly, he saidex-boyfriend. Some bad poetry freak.
My sister frowns at me. “He just told you?”
I nod.
“Out of nowhere? He went, ‘Oh, I have an ex-boyfriend, by the way’?”
“Not like that.”
“Maybe he just tried it out, didn’t like it, and now he’s straight. Who knows?” Sun shrugs unapologetically.
I drop the shirt in my hands, staring blankly at my sister. “Can you stop fucking with my head?” What if she’s right though? People experiment with their sexualities all the time. It is possible Luan onlytried it out. It didn’t work for him.
This isn’t even a date, so why should I care?
I’m only going down there to get wasted. That’s it.
Besides, you don’t make assumptions about other people’s sexualities, that’s rude.
“Are you coming with me?” I ask, finally settling on a plain black t-shirt. All I ever wear is black, so I’m not sure why I even bothered to try on different colors. Why do I evenowna red shirt?
Sun shakes her head, laughing. “And end up watching you make out with some guy? No thank you.”
“There won’t be any making-out because it’s not a date.”
“Still. I’ll keep an eye out for Dad. Watch your phone, I’ll text you when he goes outside.”
I walk over to my sister and press a quick kiss to her cheek. “You’re the best.”

“Shit, Lu.”Doro staresat the massive mansion a little up on the rocks. They have a whole ass private beach and everything. Granted, they have to go down some steps from the little hill first but if I lived there, I wouldn’t mind it either.
El Matador Beach has a lot of rocks all over, and hills just before the beach starts, so it’s not unusual to have a few houses built on them. Or a massive mansion. Though this one is the only actualmassiveone.
There are a few houses around, but none quite of that size. And none close to the Li’s property.
“You said he wasn’t local.”
I bob my head slowly. “He said he wasn’t.” But then why in the ever-loving heaven would Grey chill at the Li’s house? Nobody goes there. Nobodydaresgoing there. Their property has a better security system than Disneyland.
But I suppose with the CEO of Li Co. living there, it’s to be expected.
“Maybe he’s befriended one of the kids,” I say, being hopeful.
Doro laughs. “Mm-hmm. You know, their second born son’s name is Grey right?”
