“That won’t work.”

“It will, Grey Davis. As you should know, I always get what I want. And since I want to win, there’s no way we won’t.”

Grey shakes his head. “You’re so full of yourself.”

I grin. “Jesus, you’re saying that like you’re in—” My grin turns into a smirk when I realize “You know, if you’re in love with me, Grey Davis, you can just say it.”

Grey presses a kiss to my lips. “I’d rather die than respond to that very sentence.” Bringing his mouth to my ear, he whispers, “But if we win this game, I might know a way to celebrate.”

“How?”

“Instead of fucking the air, how about I fuck you instead?”

I should’ve known this was coming. “We better win then.”

Spoiler: we won.

Chapter 11

“‘cause nobody ever loved me like you do”—pov by Ariana Grande

December 2026

“I can’t believeyou’ve never met my dad before.” Luan finishes buttoning his dress shirt, then walks over to one of the million moving boxes to find a pair of shoes good enough to wear with a suit, to his father’s company Christmas party.

Surprisingly, I’m free this weekend, so I thought why not be my boyfriend’s date to this party. Parents don’t like me, so maybe that would be a reason why I should’ve stayed in New York. Especially if we remember the part where I’m supposed to be the son of Luan’s father’s rival. I’m not in touch with my dad, but he doesn’t know that. And Mr. Hayes is yet to find out I’m said rival’s son in the first place.

All while Luan’s supposed to move in with me in three weeks, right on New Year’s Eve. Officially, anyway. Luan’s going back to New York with me in two days, then he’ll stay until Christmas, fly back home for a day or two to officially say goodbye to everyone and celebrate Christmas with his family, too, before he’s back with me a day or two before New Year’s Eve.

“I can’t believe I’m meeting him today,” I mutter, plopping down on the only standing furniture; his bed.

“He’ll love you,” Luan says. “My dad has a big heart. He’s more likely to adopt you than ever say anything bad about you. Trust me. There was this one time in fourth grade when I brought home a homeless guy because I thought he could use a shower, and instead of getting mad, my dad agreed. He fed him, gave him some money and new clothes, then told him to show up at our house again if he ever needed anything. So, yeah, you’ll be fine.”

That’s nice… but it doesn’t help.

“Grey, seriously. Even if he doesn’t like you—which won’t be the case—it won’t change anything.” Luan takes both of my hands in his, pulling me up to sit. “I’m an adult, almost thirty. I can date whoever I want, even if my parents don’t approve of the relationship. Besides, you know very well how fond my mother is of you. And my dad asks about you a lot as well, so seriously, stop worrying about it.”

“Twenty-seven isn’talmostthirty. It’s… twenty-seven.”

“I turn twenty-eight in less than two months, so itisalmost thirty.”

I don’t want him to say that. If he’s almost thirty, that meansI’malmost thirty, which pushes me closer to retirement with every passing second. Before I know it, I’ll be spending my days trapped in my apartment with my future husband, Luan, doing nothing all day. Maybe we’ll go on a million trips a year because what else are we supposed to do?

Though, there is a high chance Luan will find a coaching job in New York, so perhaps traveling as much isn’t going to happen either, which then means I will be spending most of my days hanging around at my friend’s apartments to pass time. That shouldn’t sound too bad, given that I do exactly that now whenever I’m at home.

Luan lays his hands on my jaw, sighing. “I love you, Grey Davis, but your negativity is driving me nuts today.”

“Sorry.” I place my hands onto his ass, pushing him a little closer to me until he gets the hint and sits down on top of me.

“It’s okay, I don’t know you any other way.”

That’s a lie. Luan knows more sides to me than anyone else. “You promise everything will be okay?”

Luan nods. “Of course, baby. What should go wrong?”

I don’t know, but I feel like something bad is about to happen.
