He had been the one thing I hadn’t needed to think about. From the moment I had seen him, I had known he was trouble, and I had wanted him regardless.
“I do not think too much...” I started, failing to believe my own words.
“You kind of do, love.” Dion finally loosened his grip on my waist, giving me a tiny push towards Jax who caught me easily.
And the arms he wrapped around me were heavy with meaning and intent.
“Hey, you.” His head ducked down, the flash of his tongue bar playing against his teeth.
“Hey.” I couldn’t help it. My voice came out almost shy. Because this was really happening. Me and Jax. At least, I thought we were. I still had questions, and I needed to think.
“Stop it, Elodie.” Jax pressed his thumb between my eyebrows, smoothing out the line that had appeared there. “There’s nothing to think about, just me and you until you get sick of my jealous ass, or until…” he trailed off, and the corners of his mouth twitched up.
My heart plummeted into my stomach. I actually felt sick.
“Until what?” Nervously, I plucked at the hem of his shirt.
“Until you let me change that ring for a diamond one.”
I stared at him blankly. One person started laughing, and then more and more people joined in. It was pretty clear to everyone else but me what he was talking about.
“An engagement ring, Elodie.” Jax said each word slowly, his eyes never leaving my face. “Or a wedding band.”
