“I’m good on the company front. You can go.”

“C’mon, don’t dismiss me just yet. Let’s have a drink and get to know each other.”

“The only thing I need to know about you is that you do what I tell you when I tell you.”

“I’m not much for being an errand boy. But I’ll make an exception for you.”

“You’re a Deltoro now. You don’t have a choice. I’m your boss.”

“Prettiest boss I’ve ever had.”

“Your flattery is nauseating.”

I frown. “Most women like it.”

“I’m not most women.”

“This is the God’s honest truth. Now” — I hold up the ice bucket — “A drink? Just one?”

Dove glares at me, the infernal red glow of the strobe lights highlighting the gorgeous slants of her dark fairy face. Diablo would surely be a more fitting surname.

“Will you go away after that?”

“Yes,” I promise.

“Fine.” She lifts the bottle.

Dropping the ice bucket on the desk, I scoop out two glasses with ice. Dove pours. She isn’t shy.

“To dodging the DEA,” I toast.

Dove doesn't respond; she just clinks my glass and swallows a hefty sip.

This woman beguiles me on all levels.

“What the fuck are you staring at?” Dove demands. She is still watching the club through the glass. She has only met my eyes once since I’ve been here. And it was pure intimidation.

“You.”

“Why?”

“Because I find you fascinating.” I shake the icicles off my shoulders. She could freeze out an Eskimo.

“Fascinating like a science experiment?” She sips on her tequila, and I’m mesmerized by the trail of the liquid leaving her lips and sliding down her throat.

“No, fascinating like a car accident.”

“Are you telling me I’m a walking tragedy?” She grunts, almost like she can believe it.

“I’m just telling you I can’t take my eyes off you.”

“If this is the way you pick up women, you need a better online course. Or a better pool of women. Comparing me to a car crash definitely doesn’t get me wet.”

“Well, we have time for all that later, darlin’. I don't disappoint.”

With that, she abruptly turns to face me. Malice in her dark-rimmed, hazel eyes. “Let’s get one thing straight. I don’t hammer the help. So if you think a pretty face and a charming smile is going to have me dropping my panties, you can fucking save it. You’re wasting both our time.”

I beam with blatant arrogance. “You think my smile is charming.”
