“Did you have fun with your grandparents?” Munch asked him.
He told us everything he’d done as my parents walked over to us.
After greeting them, we went to greet everyone else that stood in front of the center.
“You are glowing.” Carmen gushed as she rubbed Munch’s stomach.
“Girl. This baby is doing a number on my back.” She put her hand on her back.
I knew our little one had been giving her problems, so I gave her a massage damn near every day.
“I’m sure, but you look good.”
Isis came over and greeted us, followed by my brothers.
“I ain’t never seen a pregnant woman look so good,” Tay said. Munch blushed as he hugged her.
I couldn’t believe she still blushed when that man talked to her. It was crazy because he was young. Then again, he was closer to her age than mine.
“Thank you, Tay.”
“Don’t be complimenting my wife,” I joked as we slapped hands.
Slider, Tech, Rico, and Lamont all greeted us. Everyone had stepped into their roles with no problem. We recruited some new members over the years, and everyone fit in with no issues. We were one big family, and I couldn’t be more grateful for what we had built.
We hadn’t shared it yet, but we decided Rico and Isis would be the godparents of the new baby. No matter what, our kids would have plenty of people to look after them if something were to happen to either of us.
“Can I have everyone’s attention!” Lil Rameek stood next to me, holding my hand.
It took a minute for word to reach the back of the crowd since so many people had shown up. Even Drizzle was there, and she had gotten married the year before. We actually stopped calling her Drizzle and started calling her by her real name, which was Nicki. She didn’t work at the clubhouse as often, but she still came through from time to time. Her husband was cool too. He was from out of town, so I didn’t think he knew everything about her past. Either way, he loved her, and she loved him.
Once everyone quieted down, I spoke. “I’d like to thank you for all coming today. This center means so much to us, especially my wife and her parents. She put a lot of work into this, and I’m proud of her. I also want to thank everyone that helped make this a reality for her. With that being said, Welcome to Rameek’s.” I helped Munch cut the ribbon as tears slid down her puffy cheeks. Unlike the first pregnancy, her cheeks had gotten big, but it didn’t take away from her beauty.
She removed her glasses and wiped her eyes as everyone entered the center. Lil Rameek walked in with his aunts and uncles.
Multiple people congratulated us as they walked pass. When it was just the two of us, I pulled her into my arms.
“Are you okay?”
She smiled through her tears. I wiped her face with my shirt, and she giggled. I wrapped my arms around her again and repeated my question.
“Yes. I just can’t believe that it finally opened. I couldn’t ask for a better life, Kane.”
“Me either, baby. The only thing that will make things better is when we have this little one.” I rubbed my hand over her stomach, then pressed my lips against her forehead and kept it there for a minute. Closing my eyes, I basked in the stillness of the air.
The sun had suddenly come from behind the clouds, and I knew it was nobody but Rameek shining down us.
