As dawn fully claims the sky, the men finally leave Evelyn’s body to rot in the woods and now is my time.

Ourtime.

I fly down to the ground and stand tall as a man again. Leaves crunch under my feet as I walk up to my Evelyn and our Ada. Her body and face are now unrecognisable, and I try not to get caught up in emotions of seeing her like this. She died a human, but she will be reborn a God.

Situating myself around Ada and in front of Evelyn, I fall to one knee. I reach to hold her hand, smiling as excitement starts to blossom through me. My rune glows gold, not blue—I won’t be guiding her precious soul to the next stage. No.

I stand up and pull on her hand at the same time. Her soul takes her form as she rises up to meet me, leaving her crushed body on the floor. I grab her other hand, steadying her and allowing her to find her footing. She looks beautiful. Her long brown hair is loose and slightly wavy, her skin is flawless and she looks so well rested. She wears a floor length black dress, off the shoulders with a deep V neckline to her stomach. She has her half pendant on and now, she has a similar crow rune upon her chest. She looks like the woman she was always meant to become.

A Death Goddess.

Evelyn blinks up at me and smiles. “Gray,” she breathes.

My knees go instantly weak and I brush my fingers along her cheek and smile. She leans into my touch. Even in our death form, her skin is so soft. I can’t wait to explore her now I finally have her with me. I move my hand to her neck and hold her head, wrapping my other arm around her back and pulling her close to me. I hope she forgives me for what I'm about to do before I’ve even said a word to her.

I cannot wait any longer.

I bring my head down to hers and kiss her softly. A small gasp escapes her, but she kisses me back, her hands exploring my hips, my back, my chest and my hair. I deepen the kiss and she follows, wanting this as much as I do. I’m so hungry for her and I cannot wait to taste every inch of her.

My goddess breaks the kiss first, breathing heavily and gazing up into my eyes. I know they’re gold right now as hers shine gold, too. My equal. My mate. My partner for eternity.

“Gray. What happened? Why am I here?” she asks, clutching onto my tunic. Her eyes are dimming back to her usual brown. I softly hold her head up by her chin so she can stay looking at me. Her eyes are full of questions, and we have eternity to answer every single one.

“You and I, Evelyn, we’re meant to be. I claimed your soul for my own and you became my Death Goddess. We are bound together forever and I hope…you are happy with this. That you will accept me and love me. I hope for your forgiveness for the past few hours.” I take a breath, reliving what I had to witness.

“I understand why you weren't with me, Gray. I know I screamed for you, but you can’t interfere. I’m just sorry you had to see what happened. My Ada…those bastards,” she says as she finally looks around her.

We still stand in the forest near her own and Ada’s body. She raises a hand to her mouth as she takes everything in and I take the opportunity to whisper Ada’s name, touching my rune. A ball of blue light comes away and I grab it, throwing it into the trees.

“Come, my love, let us leave.” I grab Evelyn’s hand, pulling on her to follow me as she still gazes at her dead body. No one should look upon it for such a long time.

At first, she doesn't move, and I give her a minute before tugging gently again, my fingers entwined with hers. She looks down at her bare feet and follows my pull as I guide her through the forest to where I threw Ada’s soul. A neigh pierces through the trees, and I smile and Evelyn gasps. I let go of her hand as she rushes past me, holding her dress up, and falling into Ada’s side, cuddling her neck.

Evelyn sobs uncontrollably and whispers her apologies to Ada. Ada returns the hug with her head and I stand and watch. Ada looks at me and bows her head, I reciprocate. I walk over to join them both, admiring the stunning grey covering Ada, although her legs remain black.

What a perfect death horse for Evelyn. Her mane and tail have turned pure white and Evelyn’s trophies that were plaited into Ada’s mane have gone. I hope she doesn’t mind.

“Thank you!” Evelyn yells as she turns and jumps into my arms. She kisses me deeply and I lift her, holding her tightly to my body, relishing in all these new touches and sensations.

“I love you, Evelyn,” I say, breaking the kiss. I feel her smile against my lips as she kisses me again, her hands tangled in my hair.

“I love you, Gray.”

To hear those words both in life and in death makes me shudder with such need and pleasure, but I can’t take her here, so I place her back on the ground.

“Come, my goddess, let us leave this place and I can show you our world and answer all your questions. But first, I need to taste you and feel you upon my body. I need to claim you and make you fullymine.” I moan the last part and her smile turns sinister.

“You read my mind, my King.” She bows a little at the hips.

“Oh, my love, it’ll be me bowing and dropping to my knees for you soon.” I grin at her and place a hand on her back to guide her to our new home. Ada trots behind us and we all slowly fade away to nothing in the human world.

Our story here isn't the end, it is only the beginning.

My love.

My Evelyn.
