“Hey, you,” Icalled, and he glanced over at me. “Remember my face, because no one points agun at my family and gets away with it. I’ll be coming for you.”

“Gauge, for fuck’ssake, shut up!” Shooter yelled, but Ididn’tcare. It was all true. Every word Ispoke.

Once Iwas out, Iwould find that fucker, hunt him down, and kill him. The poor guy looked like he was about to piss himself, and Istarted to laugh.

“Get in the car, Bishop,” Shooter ordered, and Inodded.

Casa was already on the phone to our attorney, aguy we had on fucking speed dial. Whatever those assholes had on me wouldn’tbe enough to keep me, he’dmake sure of that.

Ilet the officer lower my head as Igot in the back of the car. He lowered his own head so that we were eye to eye, his face close to mine.

“Iain’tinterested in you,” Isneered.

“You’ll be out by morning, brother,” Shooter said from somewhere.

The officer smiled at me, his warm breath that stank of his lunch from earlier washing over my face. “You’ll be dead by morning, more like,” he said.

“What the fuck did you just say to me? Do you know who you’re messing with?” Igrowled.

His smile grew wider. “The Razorbacks say hi.”

My stomach tightened and my expression fell.

The Razorbacks had never made such adirect move on our club, and my mind raced with why now. Ididn’thave to wait long for my answer.

“They’re pretty pissed that Highwaymen messed with the operation they had going with the Vipers. They think alesson is needed.” He slammed the door shut and stalked to the front of the car before climbing in.

Ilooked out the window to Shooter, his stony stare on me, his frown deepening when he saw my fallen expression. Casa was still on the phone, but as the patrol car started up, Iwatched him hang up. He said something to Shooter with ashake of his head and then he glanced my way, aworried look on his face.

Shooter'sgaze darkened, his jaw twitching as the car began to pull away.

“Hope you had agood day,” the officer up front said. “It was your last.”

My gaze shot to Jolie as she walked closer to the car. She held her hand up to me, her expression full of worry.

It’sokay, Imouthed.I’ll be okay.

She nodded, not looking totally convinced, but she trusted me. She always trusted me.

And then we were headed away into the darkness, the lie burning my lips, because Ididn’tthink it was going to be okay at all.

“She’sreal pretty,” the officer said. “Ihope she was worth it.”

My head snapped around, looking in his direction. “What the fuck did you just say?”

He smiled again, his eyes watching me in the rearview mirror. “She looked prettier in pink, in my opinion, but each to their own, right?”

My chest hummed with unspent rage, each beat of my heart slamming into my ribs.

“You touch her and I’ll kill you,” Iwarned, and he laughed.

“Where you’re going you won’tbe killing anyone again.”

“Ihope you’re this brave when I’muncuffed.”

He laughed again. “Ihope she’sas feisty as she was on the boat,” he replied.

Red mist covered me and Iraged in the back of the patrol car. My legs kicking out at the metal grate that separated us. Iyelled over and over, threatening everyone associated with him if he touched her, but all he did was laugh and keep on driving, and for the first time in years, real fear crept through my body.

They had gotten to me. They had gotten to my club, and now they could get to Jolie.

“Jolie!” Iroared, turning in my seat, hoping that someone would hear me. Hoping that someone would know the danger she was in and protect her, because Iwas done for. It was the end of the line for me.
