‘Yes.’ Connie nodded vigorously. ‘That’s right.’

Marjorie—of course—narrowed her eyes as everyone around the booth leaned in a little. ‘What kind of a development?’

‘Well…’ Ronnie cleared her throat. ‘Fin and Sweeney have—’

‘Fin and Sweeney have set a date.’

Everyone at the table looked at each other, confused, for a moment—not least the mothers. Until it slowly filtered in that it was Fin’s voice, and they all turned to see Fin and Sweeney holding hands as they made their way towards them.

‘Fin?’ Ronnie said, her eyebrows drawn together.

Connie stared disbelievingly at her daughter.‘Sweeney?’

Dumbstruck, neither of them moved out of the booth as their kids said, ‘Hi,’ in unison. Also, they were both grinning. Oh, andholding hands.

‘We were thinking a summer wedding, out by the lake, weren’t we, honey?’ Fin said.

Sweeney nodded. ‘Then a reception here. If that’s alright by you, Ronnie?’

Ronnie blinked. ‘Of course.’ She grinned then. ‘I wouldn’t have it any other way.’

‘Are you… both staying?’ Connie asked tentatively.

‘Yep.’ Fin nodded as he slid an arm around Sweeney’s shoulders. ‘Basing ourselves in Melbourne. I’ll study and work part-time and Sweeney’s going to work on her new portfolio and sometimes she’ll travel if something comes up she really wants to do.’

‘It looks like you have it all worked out,’ Marjorie said, her tone surprisingly indulgent, those normally pursed lips actually tugged into a smile.

‘We do,’ Fin replied, smiling at her. ‘Thanks to a little push from our mothers.’

Then everyone was talking at once as Fin and Sweeney pulled up chairs, subjecting themselves to a right Ballyshannon grilling. Everything from wedding gowns to babies was discussed.

Nothing was off the table.

For their part, Ronnie and Connie basked in the fact thattheirbabies had not only flown back home to the coop but had apparently decided to make their fake engagementreal. And neither of them felt too bad anymore about their original transgression from weeks ago that had landed them all in hot water. In fact, it had worked out pretty bloody perfectly.

And now they had a wedding to plan.
