THIRTY-FIVE
Lilith
Purgatory was condemned. The air was humid, sticky, and completely different from the painfully dry air it usually was. The walls bled dark crimson, pouring down onto the standing viscous liquid that came up to my ankles, the warmth of the blood seeped in my shoes, soaking my feet.
“Disgusting.” I scrunched my nose and moved my foot around in the blood, making small ripples in it. I glanced behind me but the portal was gone…along with all of the guys.
My heart dropped into my stomach. “Oh, fuck.”
Where’d they go?
Behind me was a dead end, and I was in a long hallway with no doors around. I only had one option, and it was to walk forward. The guys were smart. They’d be okay…surely.
I pushed my feet forward, the blood sloshing around my ankles as I walked down the hall. A sickly heat trailed down my spine as I continued forward. Being separated from them made me nauseous. It reminded me of the vision I had when Viktor killed them.
My chest squeezed and I wrapped my hand around my throat, reminding myself to breathe.
It was dark in the hall, so I held out my hand to summon hellfire, but nothing happened. Letting out a harsh breath, I let my fangs drop. “Same tricks, huh Mystia?” Cutting my finger, droplets of blood welled out of the wound and didn’t heal up.
I closed my eyes and willed my intent to destroy her spell on my magic, just like before, but I still couldn’t summon hellfire or use telekinesis. My nostrils flared as my eyes shot open.
That should’ve fucking worked.
I took off running down the hall, blood splashing up as my shoes smacked down into it, but my vampire speed wasn’t working either. “Fuck!”
I glanced around before smacking my hand against the wall that poured blood, but it came in contact with a fleshy texture that made me pull my hand back with haste.
Taking another deep breath, I tried to gather my thoughts. Mystia was behind this, and I didn’t know where she was keeping my family or the guys. They could be in danger right now, and they were the only thing that could be used against me.
I cut my finger on my fang again with intent to summon my men with the blood magic. What felt an awful lot like an electric jolt shot through me, and the guys, including Titan, appeared in front of me a few feet in a staggered line.
Relief washed through me, and I jogged over to them. “Thank fuck that worked. Where were you guys?”
Aziel wrapped me in his arms, and the guys all wrapped around us.
“I was alone in a hall that looked just like this,” Blaise answered as we untangled from each other.
“Me too,” the guys said in synch.
I swallowed hard. “Do your powers work?”
“No,” Thaddeus said as he ran a hand through his hair.
Blaise shook his head, squeezing his fists together at his sides.
“No,” Kai said, shaking his head.
“Nothing fucking works,” Aziel growled.
“Nothing here either.” Titan glanced down.
“So it’s not just mine…” I used blood magic to neutralize a spell cast on me, but if it was affecting the guys too, then…
I bit my finger again before focusing on my intent to break her spell on us. I tried my hellfire again, but it wasn’t working. “Fuck.”
“What?” Kai asked.
“I tried neutralizing her spell but I’m not casting it right. I tried neutralizing it on me but since you’re affected too, I thought that’s why it didn’t work.”
