“How would they even know?” Kai asked.

“Traces of magic. Angels recognize other angels' magic,” he explained as the heavy chains hit the ground, clanging against each other. “I’m not dying for you.”

Before they could reply, the angel teleported away, no longer bound by Hell’s chains.

Hot blood trailed down my arm and dropped from my elbow to the floor as I squeezed harder, pushing the metal deeper until it hit bone. The physical pain only slightly dulled the agony in my heart.

“You shouldn’t have untied him,” I growled. “Do you know how fucking long I’d searched for an angel?”

“I didn’t fucking know the chains were stopping him from teleporting!” Blaise kicked the chains, moving them with an annoying clang.

“We still don't know much about the way Hell works,” Thaddeus reminded me.

“But surely Lilith wouldn’t be too keen on torture,” Kai said.

Kai stepped closer to me, grabbing the dagger out of my grasp with a gentle force. “If you worked with us, we’d be able to work together better.”

I clenched my teeth together with a huff as my hand healed. “It’d be easier to work together if you didn’t make the fucking blood oath.”

“We fucked up,” Thaddeus said with a heavy tone. “We know, but we only have one bloody week left until it’s up. I have a feeling we don’t want to wait that long.”

We had to do something fast. We were at a severe disadvantage because the vampires didn’t have their power boost since the new moon had come and gone.

My vision blurred with unshed tears as I turned to the vampires. They had a point. I was getting nowhere on my own. My heart was shattered in a million fucking pieces and every minute that passed, a piece turned to dust. Fuck, we had to do something because if we didn’t, I'd be become a husk of demon.
